I can't figure this out at all. I have installed Windows 7 onto or into,
Imac OS10. Inside of that I have installed Video Studio 10. The program runs
without incident until you realize that there is no volume at all!
There was some mention of patches for this version of the program but nothing
about the volume issue. If I have left a stone un-turned or anyone has any ideas
at all, I need help. The whole system itself does have excellent sound only Video
Studio does not. I have been considering up grading to the new Video Studio 6
but hate to spend the money if it is not necessary to do so.

Re: No Sound?
Hi Bill
Hi
Video Studio 10 is very old as things go, was released well before Windows 7, Corel would say it is not compatible with W7.
I have attached the PDF with links to VS10 patches.
The nearest for windows compatibility is for Vista.
I guess you could try installing that but to be honest I do not know what effect the patches have for W7
Your profile shows you running XP, if that was so you would not have a problem with VS10.
you may be best in downloading the trial version X6, even if its only to compare to VS 10 audio problem.
If X6 has problems then we could assume its not simply a VS10 compatibility issue

Re: No Sound?
Lata is probably right but just check the volume level for the program. Click on the speaker symbol and then "Mixer" and check the volume sliders are set to high. (This happened to me with VS X6.)
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

There is also quite a lot on the Microsoft website from people losing sound after a Windows update - have a look here :-

Re: No Sound?
Hi to both BrianCee and Terfyn,
In reading back over my post I realize that I left one important
thing out when describing the no sound issue. Whether or not it has a bearing on this situation or not, I do not know but will mention it now. While working inside of the program, the time meter just below the preview screen
seems to have a rapid pulsing or strobing effect to its numbers as the film plays.
I should also mention that the program has been removed and re-installed
a number of times and in addition some of those mentioned patches were tried
but nothing seemed to work. I may have said before but if not I will repeat,
this program is running from inside of a Windows 7 format that is inside
of an actual Imac machine. This new Mac is running the OS X at 8.4.3 version
with 8 gigs of Ram driving it. Also on my old machine, running Windows XP, the
program runs in it’s usual magnificent fashion.
Some of last evening was spent over on the Corel site reviewing the new programs available and I must say that I was very grateful to be sitting down while reading the prices but considering the cost against some of the competition, well there is no real considering is there? By sheer comparison of speed and ease of use, the Video Studio wins every time. Of course, there is no accounting for personal taste and some might prefer other much higher priced editors although I still can’t figure why! <g>
Thanks again for all of your help and taking the time in trying to help me,

Re: No Sound?
Hi
Just to confirm ---when you say no sound at all, I assume just that and the sample audio clips in the library don’t work either.
Using Windows 7, when I view the systems Volume Mixer (Via HD Audio) I see Corel Video Studio as part of the applications, so am able to adjust levels for that program.
Video Studio also shows the speaker volume levels by selecting the speaker icon right icon below preview screen.
And
Switching to the sound mixer also shows the levels bouncing as the audio is played in project playback..
However no sound is heard till I adjust the System Volume Mixer for Video Studio.
I don’t have Windows 8 to compare but sure not every W8 users are having the sound problem.
Have you checked the Volume Mixer settings??

Re: No Sound?
Hi Lata,
No sound in program, going into the audio inside and trying to play I get an “Undefined External Error” its number is 19.711:9:3.
Going into Volume Mixer I have or can see "applications" and it lists system sounds there is nothing about VS 10 in there at all and yes the system sounds work just fine.
I am assuming from your mail ……………..You Are Running Windows 7 and have and are using VS10 from inside of it
and can see VS10 listed under applications? If this is correct then I must VS10 in there some how????

Re: No Sound?
Hi Bill
VS 10 well no I do not have that installed any more since updating the OP from XP to W7 about 6 months ago?
But I did notice the Sound Mixer application pointing to Video Studio and with that level at a minimum I had no audio even if I raided the levels within Video Studio as that is controlling the speaker levels not the levels from the applications.
I would have thought your audio system would see Video Studio running whatever version.
Below is the image I see with the VS volume reduced.

Re: No Sound?
Hi Bill
a bit more info.............
I have installed Video Studio 10 to Windows 7
I am having a few issues, one with the screens colour profile that has been auto changed to match VS10
and an “internal error message” shows when trying to play a clip.
However my audio Mixer does see Video Studio 10 as one of the applications.
I have managed to get things moving by running in XP Compatibility mode that gives other linking problems as i am using 64Bit
Installing the VistaPatch 5in1 seems to have cured that
Now I can play clips and do have audio.
Not sure how efficient VS 10 will be nor whether all the editing features will work, but it boots up and does appear ok

Re: No Sound?
Hi Lata,
I worked on the program until late this morning, around 1:30 am. By unloading and re-loading the program I did at one point have it inside that “application” window that you are showing a picture of but even at that, no volume. Then I did notice something that I had not seen before. When you have a film clip up inside the program off to the right hand side there are two tabs. One says Video and the other says attribute, The video tab has a picture of the speaker icon and on my program there is an “X” over it. I can not remove or clear that icon. Working back over here again, on my Windows XP machine, I have the same icon in the same place but perfect sound without issue.
Also back on the other machine on Windows 7 I did get the program to run in Windows XP mode from inside of Windows 7, which is inside of Imac OS x 10! That was some trick, believe me. But it does work but getting it to acknowledge file placement of the video files in their proper place has proven to be a challenge at best. It would seem that the program will only go so far and that’s it. Also we can’t discount the fact that even though I did get it to work a bit, I do not think that it can function as the old full video editor from Windows XP. Its drivers and file protocols are just too old to run in the newer faster and higher end file systems, it simply can’t find the files from inside of the Windows system tree.
So time does march on for us all; even computers and their programs can get stretched to their limits and that’s exactly what I think has occurred here. I can see Video Studio Pro on the horizon! Tally Ho!
Best wishes and thank you again for all of your time and help,
it was a pleasure meeting and talking with you these past few days.
