BURNING A DVD

Post by WASHBAY »

:? I HAVE A PLEXTOR PX-716UF DVD BURNER. WHEN I TRY TO BURN A DVD , IT INDICATES THERE IS NO AVAILABLE SPACE. THE DVD DISC IS EMPTY. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

Is the disc completely blank and new? Technically if you put a blank DVD in the drive and ask Windows to read , it will read 0 bytes used, 0 bytes avaliable. Only if you are using a writer and a writing program will that show avaliable space. What kind of disks are you using? If they are not the right kind for the drive you are using, it will also read 0 bytes avaliable.

:D Another thing, Washbay, nothing to do with your problem though and no offence intended, using all capitals in forum posts anywhere, is considered shouting and perceived as very rude. I'm sure that was not your intention, just wanted to point it out to you in case you didn't know.

To your problem now, AnimeChick may be right, depending on what you are trying to do. There are different format disks available, DVD+, DVD-, DVD-RAM, DVD+DL and not every burner can handle any of the formats. Make sure your burner is capable to work with the disk format of your blank. It could also be that your blank is faulty or is formatted to something the burner cannot read, even though it is blank.

Burning a DVD

Post by WASHBAY »

The disc is brand new and empty. I am using verbatim, DVD+R 16x because that's what came with the burner. i just tried another DVD and the same thing happened. Is there a patch I should download for 16x on version 3?

I'm stumped. Can you explain, step by step, what it is you are doing?

I gather you are trying to burn a DVD, right? When the system asks you to insert a blank disk, what happens next? Does it tell you there is no disk in the drive?

Please explain in a bit more detail.

Just had a look at the PLextor web site. Your drive is an external one, right?

I have never used external devices but seem to remember a post or posts, concerning similar problems to yours, with external device.

DVD burning

My burner is external. When I'm on the burn window, in disc information it shows DVD+R, which is the type of DVD I have inserted in my burner but it still indicates 0 available space. Drive E and required/available space is written in red.
I reloaded the plexor software but nothing changed. Should I reload the ulead software?

I don't think this is a ULEAD problem. Does your drive show in the device manager > hardware window of control panel? No red or yellow icons next to it?

What type of connection do you use, USB or firewire?

Have you actually tried to burn a DVD or did you stop right there where it tells you there is no free space on the disk?

Have you burned a DVD or CD with any other software, like NERO etc?

DVD burning

I just tried to burn a DVD with the Roxio easy media creator software that came with the burner. It only burned the sound files not the photographs. I don't know why. It should have burned the photo's too.
The burner is connected to the computer via a usb port.
I did not try to burn a DVD with Ulead.
The DVD drive [E drive] was on my device manager but isn't now. Do you know why?

External burner drives, when connected via USB, usually requires that you at least have a USB 2.0 port. This is so that the USB connection can accomodate the large bandwidth required to transfer the data that you need to burn.

If they say that your pc has a USB 2.0 compatible USB port, look it up again. It most probably is a USB 1.1 slot. It simply means that your drive is compatible and can detect USB 2.0 devices like burner drives. But it won't be able to perform its function very well because it lacks the badwidth for data transfer.

If you already have a USB 2.0 port, try interchanging your USB connections and connect your burner to another port. This usually does the trick...
