I have now been using VideoStudio pro x5 Ultimate for several
months.
I create, edit movie.
After editing is complete I create .mpg file. Then do other
things, eventually producing a finished .iso file.
I've probably made over 10 finished .iso files.
Using other software, the .iso gets made into DVD+R, right
at 4 Gig or slightly under.
Now, all of a sudden I am unable to create .mpg file.
I do same as I have been...
Share, Create Video File, DVD, DVD Video 16:9 Dolby digital 5.1.
It begins rendering .mpg file.
It seems somewhat random, gets 17%, 66%, whatever, then crashes
with that default meaningless error.
Gives me an error :
The program has encountered an unspecified error and has
stopped functioning. Please contact Corel Technical Support and
send the dump file for analysis.
1 :
Often times when Corel crashes, you can bring it back by
finding the 15.0 directory and deleting it. Corel VSPX5 will
rebuild this directory next time you run VSPX5.
I tried this, no-go.
2 :
I have plenty of free hard drive space ~ 100 G.
3 :
I've went back to .vsp file, and just started hacking out
chunks starting with the end of the movie.
Mayby, perhaps, kind of, starts working, allowing .mpg file
to be made when I chop out around 70%.
4 :
I have started over with the edit.
Bring in a few photos, movie clips, text at a time, perhaps
15 minutes worth.
Then attempt to create .mpg. Mpg file is created successfully.
I then go back and edit .vsp file, add another 10 minutes or
so, attempt creation of .mpg, it works.
I continue doing this, adding a few minutes at a time.
I got up to around 45 minutes maybe, with a successful creation
of .mpg.
My latest edit of .vsp, brought in remainder of photos, clips.
Tried to create .mpg.
During render, crashed around 38%.
I changed nothing, rendered again, crashed around 20%.
5 :
I've closed out nearly all other applications running on pc
so that as near as I can, only vspx5 is running.
FireFox browser not running. Don't use quicktime.
Attempt .mpg, render, it crashed just when ever.
6 :
I went back to a previous good movie, .vsp file.
I re-rendered .vsp file to .mpg. No problem.
7 :
For some reason this particular .vsp file is giving me problems
and I don't know why.
It simply won't render to .mpg.
Any hints, clues as to what I can do?
I've spent nearly 80 hours on this one project alone.
It usually takes less than 10 hours.
Other data :
==========
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
All the video files are from my digital camcorder, .mpg files
copied from camcorder to hard drive. I work with .mpg files
from the hard drive.
There really aren't any video, audio "devices" connected
to my pc.
Other items in footage, .tif photos, .mp3 audio scattered
along time line on the music track.
Tif photos, scanned in using HP multi-function scanner,
printer or from still-camera.
How did they get onto your hard drive (download, firewire,
USB cable etc.)?
USB cable, either direct copy from camcorder or usb drive.
Question 8. PAL or NTSC? NTSC
Question 10. What are you trying to make?
A Standard DVD. 4.7 Gig.

Hi
Very strange…..thanks for all the info, you seem to have tried most things we would have suggested.
Audio some MP3 Lame types cause problems, convert the MP3 to Wav to see if that cures the problem.
The older VSP’s that render ok I assume they are of a similar duration. Under 60 minutes?
As a side note---if the iso is under 4.3 Gb then use Video Studio X5 to burn the ISO to disc, using the other program probably re-codes the video again? Just a thought

Hello there Trevor.
Thank you for your time.
First, what happened after I posted on 08-30-2013 Friday 2200.
I re-booted pc.
I got back to same, nearly same spot in vspx5, same problematic
.vsp file. I did not change, edit anything in .vsp file
I did the...
VideoStudio pro x5 Ultimate, Share, Create Video File,
DVD, DVD Video 16:9 Dolby digital 5.1.
... in order to create, render to .mp3.
Rendering commenced.
Only by happenstance did I notice that the cursor? the vertical
bar thingy that exists in the timeline, the cursor was at the very
end of movie.
Vspx5 did not crash this time. It rendered all 100%.
Now, in previous attempts, was the cursor sitting at essentially
17%, 66%, whatever, somewhat random, position of the movie?
Yes, for at least some of the attempts to render.
I usually do not pay attention to cursor position at this point
of move development.
I was too tired to further mess with the rendered .mpg,
hopefully it will be ok and not corrupted in some fashion.
Now to answer some of your questions.
> Audio some MP3 Lame types cause problems...
Answer :
The separate audio clips that I drug into the .vsp edit
session, I have used them before, no problem.
> The older VSP’s that render ok I assume they are of a
similar duration. Under 60 minutes?
Answer :
Yes.
In order to avoid other problems, I have kept movies to
60 minutes or less, around 4 Gig.
Thank you for your time.

I assume that to be a typo and should read "render to mpeg2"gag wrote: VideoStudio pro x5 Ultimate, Share, Create Video File,

As for the curser position, I do not recall that being mentioned as a problem before, if it were I would have thought it would crop up many times.
Quick Time, I notice you say you do not use QuickTime, however you do need it installing for Video Studio to function correctly.
If you do not have QT installed I would suggest version 7.5.5
One final thought, you do not give any details of the type of video files you are editing nor any of the properties.
Good to hear that you have rendered the project successfully even though you do not know the cause of the problem.
