No sound in clips when using VS pro X6. Win 8 64bits

Post by bikebogota »

Hello. I am running the 30 days trial version of the VS pro X6, but the added clips are muted. (important before buying).

When I add a clip the sound is ONLY played when volume for the clip is 100% (other value makes the clip mute) and is the clip preview, not the project preview. (project preview plays only the added soundtrack- if there is any).

Even if volume is 100%, when exporting the project, clip sound is muted (only the added soundtrack will sound).
- Of course I have tested several clips, and with or without an additional mp3 soundtrack.
- I also installed the just released VS SP 1, but no changes.
- I export (Share) using Vimeo HD template.
- Problem is not shown if I use VS 11 (which I also has installed).

My system characteristics are in my profile and also here:
- Win 8 pro 64 bits
- Dell Inc. Vostro 3360
- 1.70 gigahertz Intel Core i5-3317U

The clip's properties are:
Type: .MOV
-640x480
-dr 11347kbps
-total br: 11619 kbps
-fr: 30
-Audio br: 272kbps
-channels: 1 mono
-Audio sample rate: 16khz

I think something is not right on your end, as X6 works fine with Win 8 and 64 bit. However, I don't know what it could be. There are lots of audio related posts recently showing many techniques to reduce the audio levels that you should read to experiment. I would check that you are not muting the clip by mistake instead of reducing its volume, but other than that, I don't know... Al

What version of Quicktime are you using? Some people have trouble with the very latest version and find they have to revert to an earlier version such as 7.5.5 which seems to work for them. The complication there is if you use iTunes, which requires the very latest version of Quicktime. But otherwise it is fine to use the earlier version.

Thanks for the replies. please keep sending advices.

I have Quicktime 7.0.3, and I dont have iTunes. I tried closing quicktime and trying VS X6 again, but same problem.

See the attached image. A new project + a clip. Sound only plays if is 100%, if set to i.e. 80%, nothing sounds. Also, see that it is not muted.
And what is worse, even with 100% volume, the exported (shared) file is muted.

This clip works fine in VS 11.

I read other posts like this:
http://club.myce.com/f34/ulead-videostu ... nd-259581/

who had similar problems in older VS and they fixed it doing something like this (I didnt find the file, so I didnt apply this):
I found a fix for this problem and it works on VS 8-11 for XP users:
1.Make sure showing hidden files is enabled in Explore\Tools\Folder Options.
2.Go to All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems and locate the uvs.ini file. Open it and go to [VIODRIVER], on PlayAC3 and DecodeAC3 set the value to 1.
3.Under [VIODRIVER] add a line called ADVANCE=1, this will add advanced settings for MPEG encoding.
4.Exit and save.

problem solved.

I uninstalled Quicktime 7.0.3 (which came with my laptop) and installed another Quicktime version I had (7.5).
I Think .MOV files are a kind of Quicktime file, so Quicktime is involved.

Thanks Ken for the advice.
