DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro blocks

Post by johnrose »

Hello,

I bought in July 2012 from Corel USA the DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro package. I have been running it under Windows XP Professional on my Dell Vostro 3700 portable, and it worked fine for nearly a year (last time it worked was 16 April 2013). I did not use it since then until yesterday when I tried to create a new Video DVD, and now the program blocks between Step 2 (specification of the interface) and Step 3 (generation of the DVD). The preview function on the Step 2 screen works fine. When I terminate the process with the program manager, I come back to the main DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro screen by which I can continue again to Step 2.

I have tried the obvious remedies, including repairing with the installation program, but the problem remains.

My most likely cause that I can think of, is that one of the Windows XP Security Updates since 16 April may be interfering with the program, but I cannot find any reference to this on the web. I would greatly appreciate any advice which you could provide, this program is really useful and the sudden malfunction is quite strange. Thanks and best regards, John

My guess would be an update to, so if you have enough space allowed for system restore you may be able to go back that far, or you'll have to go to add remove programmes and look at the dates of updates and remove them all, them add them back one by one and check which caused it.
Of course, there could be other programme updates, anything audio/video related addition of or removal of audio/video programmes that may have done it as well.

I have moved this thread to the full Movie Factory forum since it relates to the Pro version, rather than the limited SE version distributed after the VS X3 fiasco.

I completely uninstalled DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro and then reinstalled it, and it works fine. This means that the repair functionality in the installer is not complete.

I now tend to think that the problem was not with the Windows XP Security Updates. In effect, I am also using an old Pinnacle Studio DV (version 8, about 10 years old) to edit the videos for my DVDs. Just a day before I noticed that DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro had stopped working, Pinnacle Studio DV had stopped working properly (although it did not block up) and I had to reinstall the latter to get it working again. It is my guess that this process did something to DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro.

Thanks for your attention and support, John
