make animated long line in VSx4
Hello, first post here. We are relative newbies to VideoStudio 4 but we're able to make some simple movies. Now we have been instructed to create a video that has a single red line that begins in the upper left corner, and continues to extend, to the right, towards the right side corner as the video progresses.
None of us have any idea how to accomplish such a thing. We have the basic VS4 package, which comes with Boris Graffitt plug in, thats very complicated to us..
If anyone has any relatively simple ideas as to how we could accomplish such an animation, that would be wonderful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: make animated long line in VSx4
depends exactly on what you mean by simple - how straight the line needs to be and how long does the video need to be.
Using X4 I just knocked up a sample -is this near what you want or does it have to be more precise.
check the video here :- http://youtu.be/cgeUqLsxd8g
given it a bit more thought and with a more work managed I later managed to produce this :- http://youtu.be/_RxkO1ZguQc

Re: make animated long line in VSx4
If you are looking for a straight line you can take an image of a red line and stretch it to the length of the video and then set the image to enter from the left.
Jack of all trades,

Re: make animated long line in VSx4
those videos are the general idea, however, its more complicated... the line doesnt continually extend and grow... it extends a little bit, then has to stop for awhile, some text is added, then the line begins to extend again.. then stops and more text is added... etc etc
Is this even possible in VS4?

Yes it is all possible in VS X4 - can you now give FULL details of your requirements - what EXACTLY do you want to do - where does the line start - where is it heading to - where is the text in relation to the line, is it in the line or next to it - how many lots of text are required - do all the texts have to remain on screen all the time or do they scroll off as the line extends - all can be done
Please provide your detailed and specific requirements - what is your project brief.

Re: make animated long line in VSx4
OK.
Using VideoStudio X4
black screen.
Little 4pixel wide red line begins to slowly creep from left edge towards right. After a few seconds it will stop and some text will appear just underneath the red line. This will stay constant for a few seconds. Then the red line will continue to extend towards the right for a few seconds, and then it will stop and some more text will appear just under the line, where it stopped.
This will repeat a few times until the red line reaches all the way across the frame to the right edge.
I hope I have explained this properly, thank you for your help.

It is probably something simple that I am overlooking but ... how do you do that straight line?BrianCee wrote:depends exactly on what you mean by simple - how straight the line needs to be and how long does the video need to be.

Re: make animated long line in VSx4
The straight line is just a still image with a line right across it - first put a colour block in the video track which is EXACTLY the same colour as the background of the image with a line across it set a specific time - I chose 10 seconds. Next put the still image in the top track next to it and set that to exactly the same time - now put the Wipe-side (or side wipe as it says once in the timeline) transition across the join and set that to exactly the same time - 10 seconds
It will now look as though you only have the transition in the top track - but play and you should see - you may have to use the options panel to change the direction of wipe if it goes the wrong way

Re: make animated long line in VSx4
It's not difficult but does need a bit of explanation - first I made a still image in an external image drawing package to use as a template - it looked like this :-
it does not appear in the final video but just allows me to keep the line on the straight and the vertical lines allow me to align the stop positions of the line - if you want more stops add more vertical lines.
next I made a still image of the actual line and it's background - that looks like this :-
that goes into the timeline numerous times until the timeline looks like this :-
that should set you off down the right road - what are we doing here - is this a college project or something similar. It would be a lot easier in X6 where I could have used the "Advanced Motion" option

Now if you upgraded to X6 - the timeline to achieve exactly the same effect would look like this : -
Progress aye ?

Re: make animated long line in VSx4
If any one is still interested I have made a tutorial of how I did the one in X4 - you can see it here :-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU8pXA2Br-Y
I am not saying this is the best - or indeed only way to do it in X4 and if anyone else has a different way I'm sure we'll all be pleased to see it.
