Video Shaky and Stutters in Playback Window

Post by dbz2000 »

This is something I have never experienced before and wondering if I may have something selected incorrect. When I play video clips back in the playback window, they shake and stutter and give an "after-effect" look to each clip. Looks like mouse trails if you select that in your setup. I am running the program in Windows 8 64 bit, if that matters, but don 't see why it should. When I play the clips in Windows Media player, just to check to see if it is the clips, none of this behavior occurs. Never ran into this one before and I have been with VS since the good old days of version 4. I rendered a few clips that were doing that into the final MPG format I want and the shakiness is not there once rendered. It can only mean that I have something ticked or un-ticked in my setup of VS Pro 16 Ultimate. Has anyone any information on this or have had this experience. It makes it difficult to stitch together the final clips with pinpoint accuracy. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks!

Since my post, I went back an tried a few things and the only thing that worked or seemed to help, was when I split the audio from the clip and played it that way. Then the shakiness stopped or was much less. So it must be something to do with my audio settings...I think. Just speculating at this point. Hopefully someone can assist. Be well.

Many thanks!

Does this happen with any format of video or just one? If the latter, what is the format/properties of the video?

I'll need to think about this as it's very strange. Normally DV/AVI is absolutely rock steady and one of the easiest formats to edit... Hopefully someone else might be able to help in the meantime.

Thanks Ken. I agree. Usually AVI files have not presented with any problems until now. Maybe I need to reinstall the software as something may have gotten broken in the install after I updated to Windows 8 last week. Thanks for your time and attention. I will continue to troubleshoot this also. Be well.

It must be an install problem I surmise. If I place more than one clip in the timeline and play it back, no stuttering, no shaking. If I play one clip alone or from the library lots of stuttering and shaking going on... :?: Not sure what is happening with this issue. I will play it all the way out and render my final product and see if anything is out of the ordinary. Then I will uninstall and reinstall to see if the issue still occurs. The clips have a lot of wind noise in the audio of most of the clips which were taken in Hawaii on a very windy day. Maybe that is causing the problem too since if I split the audio from the clip, it plays fine. Thanks for your assistance Ken and any others who may be pondering over this matter. All is appreciated. Be well.

I experience all of the sudden the same problem thought I use the same AVCH (.MTS) files. Just to test I rendered Video files with BD quality settings and is plays back perfectly. The problem is I still have more than 3 hours footage that must be mixed from two angles and if stuttering that much during the editing process it would be impossible to make progress. This is a huge project for me and I cannot waste time with these type of glitches. Hope you can help me. Regards

Yes I normally do so for HD, however in the mean while I uninstalled VS and did a fresh installation. I'd just started the project again without smart proxy enabled now and the stuttering seems less, but I don't think I can do the project without Smart proxy enabled. Let's see what happens I'll keep you posted. Thanks for you help

A first time for me, I removed all transitions and the moment I use them again the stuttering gets worse. I only used cross fade FX for a transition.

I have not completed my project as of this post; however, like I mentioned before, if I have more than one clip in the timeline there is NO stuttering at all. If I click on a clip in the library and play it from there; whole lot of shaking going on. So I'll just keep going along until I finish this project and render it to see what the end results will be. I will keep you posted, but this is a first for me in my history of Video Studio products. Be well.

Ok, in the meanwhile I've updated the driver of my graphics card and installed VS X5, same stuttering, but I discovered that when I unmute the clips the clips play ok. I do not want the sound from the clips and have to mute the sound as it was quite a windy day and I am going to use music for most of the part. Hope somebody can bring a solution to this problem. Thanks

Have you tried not actually clicking the Mute button, but instead simply reducing the volume down to zero or near zero by changing the 100 in the sound display downwards, or by using the rubber band in Audio view and dragging it all the way down?

Hi Ken, I just tried that and it's still stuttering. I recognised that the moment I alter the volume it stutters. What I also saw is with slower moving objects (cars in a parade) the problem is worse than the airplanes which were moving faster. I'm going to do the mixing of my cameras with sound and then mute the clips afterwards before adding my music. Thanks for your time. Regards
