WMV video has no sound in parts

Post by rhinman »

Hello,
I have a small ~180 MB wmv file and I am just trying to trim 10 seconds out of it. This file plays fine in Windows Media Player. When I bring the file into a trial version of VideoStudio X6 pro (evaluating whether to purchase) there are sections of silence appearing consistently in the area that I need. I can see the silence in the 'audio track'. This silence does not exist when playing the video in Media Player.

I also noticed (possibly related) that the video will simply stop playing at points. If I move the scrubber a few seconds after the 'stop point' and hit play it will play again for a bit and then stop suddenly again.

How can I fix this?

Can you please right click on the video when it is in the VS timeline, and copy ALL its Properties here -- or upload a screen shot of the Properties box.

Where did the file come from? The size is a little odd.
What are you hoping to end up with?
A file the same size?
How/Where will you be viewing it?

1. File came from an outside ad agency. Is it odd?
2. I'm hoping to end up with a wmv file that is 10 seconds long, taken from the 4 minute clip. Its a cartoon with mostly solid colors, perhaps that explains the small file size. I assume that taking a smaller section of the file will result in a smaller file size.
3. We hope to view it on a computer with windows media player or similar .

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? Is this a bug with videostudio?

I converted the WMV file to MP4 using VLC. VideoStudio doesn't seem to have problems with MP4 and I was able to move forward.

I suspect the odd physical dimensions and the wmv codec used was not compatible with VS and your machine.
What are the physical dimensions now?
Glad you are now up and running, but for an ad agency that's a weird file to supply in my experience.
