VS6 Pro - How to adjust audio for all clips to the right
I am a long time Pinnacle Studio user trying out the demo for VS6 Pro. Is there a way to adjust the volume at a point in the project so that the audio to the right follows the volume setting, including all the clips to the right of the edit point? I like to bring down the audio for a good portion of the project then bring it back up etc. It would be very time consuming to have to do this for each clip.

Hello,
Unfortunately not - in VideoStudio the volume of clips has to be adjusted individually.
Or you can do it using the sound mixer - under the preview window is an icon that looks like a musical note with an erratic waveform attached to it - click on that and the sound mixer will open. Play your video in 'Project' mode and when you get to the point where you want the volume to lower move the volume control down and hold it down until the video gets to the point where you want the volume to go up again - move the volume control to zero.

Re: VS6 Pro - How to adjust audio for all clips to the right
Thank you Brian.
When I do as you suggest, it still only adjusts the volume for the clip, even though I was in "Project" playback, not "Clip" playback. So it looks like I still have to adjust each clip. Are there any other solutions?
I just thought of a potential problem. If I adjust one clip down at some specific level, how can I adjust the beginning of the next clip and later clips to be that same exact level. Will I just have to eye-ball it and adjust manually so that they look like the same level?

Re: VS6 Pro - How to adjust audio for all clips to the right
you have to actually 'PLAY' the whole project as you hold the volume control down - you can then see the volume line dropping in each clip as it plays through - and the problem of end volume matching next start volume is solved as you are holding the volume control where you want it as the playback passes from clip to clip across the join

Re: VS6 Pro - How to adjust audio for all clips to the right
Brian,
I am not following you. While I am playing the project, I grab the mixer volume slider and move it down. It only lowers the volume at that point in the clip. The beginning and ending of that clip remain unchanged. The preceding and following clips remain unaffected. Am I doing something different than you are trying to describe, or is this behavior the only way it works? [Edit - Update]. I watched some online tuturials and now I see what you mean by ajusting the volume during playback. But it still only modifies the volume for that clip. Correct? I guess my problem is that I usually have lots and lots of short clips. So if I am adjust adjacent clips, I have to do each one separately.
I noticed something else that is odd. When I use the mixer volume slider to lower volume at a certain point in a clip to -6 db for example, if I then move the scrubber to another point in the timeline, the volume slider still stays at the -6 dB setting, even though the volume at that timecode has not been altered. I would have expected the volume slider to jump to whatever value the volume is at that point. Is this as expected? How can I know the volume level of any point in the timeline if I place the scrubber there?
Sorry for all the audio questions, but I am struggling to learn new editing behavior after spending so many years with Pinnacle Studio. Thank you for your time and feedback.

Re: VS6 Pro - How to adjust audio for all clips to the right
I am not at all sure what is going on on your PC - I have made a video capture of my complete screen while I manipulate the volume control - I have also put up a VU meter so you can see as well as hear what is happening to the audio.
you can clearly see that as soon as I move the slider down and hold it the volume drops and stays down through all subsequent clips - witness the audio line on the clips in the timeline - I deliberately moved the volume up and down in the middle so you could see the effect - then towards the end of the last clip I let go of the volume slider and it slowly climbs back up to normal.
Have a look at that video here :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD_BtSQPPvM
The volume slider will show the volume setting if you play the clip - it does not indicate a 'spot' volume if you manually move the cursor on a clip that is not playing.

Re: VS6 Pro - How to adjust audio for all clips to the right
I don't think Video Studio will let you make changes to all audio clips at once.
HOWEVER, what I've done in the past was go ahead and build the audio clips the way I want them, save the whole finished thing as a single audio file, re-import THAT one file into VS or Audacity, and make the changes like that.
It's not a perfect solution, but it gets the job done.

Re: VS6 Pro - How to adjust audio for all clips to the right
Hi
What do you want to do with the audio clips, if simply adjusting the volume then yes X9 can do that to multiple clips.
Shift+ Click a selection of clips, right click for menu – Adjust volume Normalise etc.
If you are adding filters then one at a time, but Copy and Paste Attributes from one clip to all is a possibility.
Depends on what you are actually trying to add?
