I have PSP 15.2.0.12, win 7 64-bit machine with ample power and graphics card. Regularly run multiple CAD programs and so on.
When I double-click the desktop icon to launch the product it crashes - always.
When I double-click an image in Windows Explorer, it launches OK and opens the file with the Edit tab active.
What would you recommend I look for/at so as to resolve the dbl-clk desktop death?
Thank you,
Bill

Re: Crash at startup, no crash when launching from image
The first thing to do is cause the PSP crash and then look at the Windows' Application Event Log to see if there's some specific data about the crash.

Just take everything out on Highway 61.

Sure...well, here's what it says... (no great enlightenment to me)
Fault bucket 3792024097, type 1
Event Name: APPCRASH
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0
Problem signature:
P1: Corel PaintShop Pro.exe
P2: 15.2.0.99
P3: 50ecf334
P4: StackHash_ba28
P5: 6.1.7601.18205
P6: 51db9710
P7: c0000374
P8: 000ce753
P9:
P10:
The .wer file has some information but not clear enough for me to decipher. There are Sig[#] listed and DynamicSig[#] listed. Then the obvious, PSP crashed.

Re: Crash at startup, no crash when launching from image
I looked at it. Nothing significant. Tells me what I know - PSP crashed.
Report.wer file pretty much says the same thing.
So, what did I learn from this exercise? That the Application version is: 15.2.0.99.
No indication of where the issue lies as far as I can tell.

I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy between your version numbers. At any rate, X5 has a Service Pack #3 available. Might as well install that....
Added:
Are you sure you have only one copy of X5 installed? And that the desktop icon is pointing to the correct executable?

Re: Crash at startup, no crash when launching from image
This issue has come back with a vengeance.
I had read somewhere that installing PSP X6 64-bit alone could be an issue. So, I uninstalled it and installed both 32-bit & 64-bit versions.
The issue is not resolved.
Scenario 1
1. Click PSP X6 64-bit desktop icon - crashes before finishing loading the software.
Scenario 2 (this used to work) - PSP X6 64-bit
1. Right click an image in Windows Explorer and click Open - crashes before ever loading the software completely
Scenario 3 (never tried before with this release) - PSP X6 32-bit
1. Right click an image in Windows Explorer and click Open - crashes before ever loading the software completely
I can reproduce it on other machines. I can also reproduce it on an iMac.
I've been using PSP for 20 yrs. It was not always this way...
Any notions to help stop this behavior are appreciated.
Thanks.
