PaintShop Pro X5 Un-install.

Post by 2Pen+1 »

I am trying to un-install PaintShop Pro X5 and am finding it impossible.

I have tried using Control Panel > un-install & Revo Uninstall Pro.

Neither of these will work. After PaintShop Pro's "preparing" panel appears the system freezes & I have to use Task Manager to shut the running process down.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Try using the 'MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS' given in the Corel Knowledge base that you can find here :-

Thanks for reply Brian.

I've tried those and get a message: "File or Folder Open stopping this operation".

I've no idea what this can mean or what file/folder can be being referred to.

You have probably tried this already but I have to ask - did you re-boot the computer to rid yourself of the file or folder open message?

Thanks for your interest Kathy_9

I did not reboot to get rid of the message, I clicked Try Again several times & when this didn't work then clicked on Cancel.

Okay - rebooting should take care of the "folder in use" issue.

Thanks again Kathy_9

Tried re- booting method twice and still get same message.
Tried using installation disc and still get freeze-up - Corel 'Preparing Screen' appears & then just continuously flickering 'running circle'. This is what I get when trying to use Control Panel or Revo Pro UnInstall to un-install. I have to use Ctl/Alt/Delete to close Corel and get system back.
Tried with all (know) running programs closed down. - not all that computer 'literate'.
Still cannot un-install

That is odd; normally a re-boot will free up a locked file or folder.

I just happened to notice in your screen shot above that there was a dialog box saying you were recycling 8665 items (459 MB) of something from Corel that resided on your C drive (x86) Did you try to manually delete the program or was that something else?

hartpaul made a couple good suggestions. If they don't work you might want to try letting Microsoft fix it http://support.microsoft.com/mats/progr ... _uninstall

Hi kathy_9 & hartpaul

Sorry for delay coming back.

kathy_9: the 'recycling' is what come up when I try to manually un-install (try to delete program folder) this appears before the message shown above.

hartpaul: I've tried to reinstall/repair using disc but it just goes into un-install mode and I get the 'freeze' with constantly 'running circle'.
I've tried manually un-installing in Safe Mode and and still get the message re an open folder or file.

When I tried to open the program this morning I got a message the program had been "Damaged or illegally modified, please reinstall" when I tried this I again got the un-install, freeze, running circle.

The link to Microsoft opens a page saying "This service not available at moment".

Not sure if this has anything to do with your uninstall issue but the "damaged or illegally modified" message will show up if Protexis Licensing Service is not started. You can check in Services to make sure it is started.

Hi kathy_9

Finally managed to un-install.

I used RevoUninstall Pro in 'Forced Uninstall Mode'.

This bought up every item in PaintShop Pro X5 which I then had to individually select and manually uninstall - a long job but PsP X5 finally gone.

Thanks for all your interest and helpful suggestions.

Regards
