I just spent 30 minutes describing in detail a problem I am having with PaintShop X5, and the connection timed out and I lost everything.
Since Corel stated pushing some upgrade notices to my PC about X6 I have been getting weird vertical noise bands on my images that had previously been fine.
This appears on RAW, and TIFF in the manage window and the edit window. JPEG images appear to be fine.
I have uploaded a file attachment after much bruh hah hah about image size in dimensions and number of bytes thta shows the problem. I would appreciate it if someone could offer some thoughts or better yet, a solution.
It is time for Corel to update it's forum software package, but that's another problem.

Re: Weird vertical noise band
I should also point out that Nikon ViewNX 2, Irfan View and a myriad of other applications display the images properly.
I just did a Repair installation on Corel using the Corel dialog and the results are the same, weird vertical banding.

Re: Weird vertical noise band
I have completely uninstalled Corel PaintShop Pro X5.
I completely uninstalled Windows Camera Codec Pack and Nikon NEF Codec Pack.
I ran CCleaner and cleaned up the registry, three iterations.
I verified that there were no latent files left around including appdata, both local and remote.
I rebooted.
I re-installed Corel PaintShop Pro X5, and I applied the Updates, 1, 2, and 3. I also applied the Local Help File Update.
The image problem described still occurs.
Some ideas, suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Re: Weird vertical noise band
OK, I want to provide a more accurate summary of the problem I am experiencing, now that I am beyond the holy cr_p, mad panic I have been in for two days now.
I am experiencing some kind of weird vertical noise bands in my Nikon NEF RAW images and my TIFF images but not in my JPEG images. This problem just started on Friday, everything was fine Thursday. PNG files also appear to be free of this problem.
If I edit a RAW image and save it is a JPEG file, the new JPEG image is fine.
An example of the noise bands is in the attachment in my first posting.
I have uninstalled and re-installed all the software as it relates to Corel PaintShop X5, including both Microsoft Camera Codec Pack and Nikon NEF Codec Pack. I have applied all the updates for everything. I have also used Cleanmgr to delete all the image thumbnail caches.
I am most horribly frustrated with this horrible problem and welcome suggestions and solutions from everyone, including Corel.

Re: Weird vertical noise band
Well, the first thing to do is determine what changes you made to your system, camera, etc., between Thursday and Friday....

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...
Just take everything out on Highway 61.

Re: Weird vertical noise band
That's just it, no changes at all.
I do want to close the loop on this though.
Having re-installed PaintShop, and knowing that I could at least work with PNG and JPEG files, I decided to bang away at some images.
I sat down and started going trhough all the preferences, ensuring that everything was again set to the way I liked it.
Then, I started to adjust the color workspace. In comparing my display with other results, it seemed off. I decided to calibrate the display again, as I had not done so for about a year. I used the display calibration in Corel, which I had not used before, it's a good tool in it's advanced mode. I saved the profile.
When I switched to a different image, the noise bands had disappeared. When I switched back to the image I had been looking at previously, the noise bands were gone.
It seems that Windows had a hiccup and either messed up the Colour Profile for my display, or the profile I had been set has been corrupted. Switching back to the previous calibration, the noise bars returned. This at least confirms that something is wrong with the previous calibration.
I cannot image what happened to cause this problem, but it is the Colour Profile calibration at fault, as best I can determine.
Problem resolved.
