Tadjio wrote:Second on my Wishlist for X7 is a new set of Raw Conversion tools
ideally this would be based on those in AfterShot Pro.

As with ASP the resultant image should be presented directly into the normal PSP Edit Mode workspace for manipulation
including the facilities for Exposure Adjustment, Highlight Recovery and Blacks Enhancement.
Which will directly lead to support of xmp sidecar files which was ommited on X6 again. Because all Metadata changes are in ASP in the XMP file
the handling of Raws in PSP is ignoring all the data in there e.g Keywords, GPS data, Lens corrections ....
I have around 7000 RAW pictures now (still growing) re-working the metadata is not an option to me.

Any chance of making the file locations stay what I make them instead of the program keeping adding it's version folders back again once I log off? I keep all of my files in one folder on my computer and I like to point the program to just that folder instead of to all of the ones that come with each version. When it adds the other folders, and if there are duplicate files, I get the message that some of them may not be able to be used because they're copies.

Thanks,
Joanne :)

Wish list? Well I know most will disagree. If they did PSP wouldn't be were it is today.
For the most part PSP is a great affordable program.
My issues with it are simply but for me at least, important enough that I wont use any of the newer versions. For what I use it for they are slow, cumbersome and frustrating to use.
Why? A number of things.

The Organizer.
Broken into two parts, Why? Folder in one drop down, Then images in another. I use the files I have in all different folders all the time. This method of arranging the organizer is slow when looking for anything.
PSP X1 is a example of how I would like the organizer to work and look. With the slide ability to size the thumbnails, Folders and files selection in the same drop down, window. So the images are immediately visible without the need to close one and open another window to view the folders content. Images viewed and scroll from right to left as one level is slow and frustrating. When a folder holds a large number of images and is set to auto drop down often closes while looking through it. PSP X1 will do this to but no were near as often and being able to view a much larger number of images at once the issue isn't as frustrating and/or annoying as the single right to left line to view is or can be far more so.

Wheel Zoom in - out
This is confusing. I have PSPX4. I use the PEN Tool "all the time". While using this tool and can very quickly zoom out and back in to a new section of my work space using X1. this zooming it very accurate. Accurate to the point were I can leave one pixel area by zooming out and zoom back in to a pin point of up to a 10 - 20 pixel area anywhere, were I have the cursor over my work space. X4 that I have purchased will "not" and can "not" even come close to this ability for fast and accurate moves over the work space. I trialed X6, the latest version and this issue is still there if not worse. With X4, this wont go close to the edge of the work space window. I use windows because I don't just have one image open at any one time. I work with or on a number so with the windows I can swap between then in a instant. Not needing to move up to change from one to the other. I zoom the window down and out the way so I can bring another up very quickly. This accuracy is important for me to. It far increases the speed and dose away with the need to constantly move to the slide bars on the bottom and side of the window, plus it can be far less accurate and often need to re visit the slide bars for a more accurate move.
How this simple work space tool works now in X4 to X6 still can increase the time used to make the work I'm doing, can and dose increase 2 fold. Twice as long to do the same job.
This is "not" a update and/or better in any way shape or foam.

TEXT Tool
Another tool I use constantly. The older method to have the small window open and the text to be viewed on the work space but edited in this small window is the more superior method over the new idea over having to edit the text over you work and have it blanking out your work below with that shadowing beneath it, making it far hard to determine color, size and font type needed is make far easier when this editing is done in a small window that is "not" apart of, or over the work space being viewed. All so with text tool. When choosing or viewing different font the new idea is for this to change the work space automatically. This is very annoying when a possible font is chosen just to have it change all the time. With that shadowing under the font in the work space, this makes choosing to correct font far more difficult to see if the font is the one your looking for or is at least close.
Again a update that to me is a backwards step. I'd really like to see this tool returned to the older but better and easier method both to view and to edit fonts. Either method made as a option would work.

The idea that is now being used in PSP is similar to Photoshop. The main and very much a large difference in this tool is the ability to alter the text, Twist. Stretch, warp for banner work and the like. PSP hasn't got this ability so has no need to follow the Photoshop idea of text tool. If or when this ability is available in PSP then I would ask if the older window method still be a option that can be chosen or not.

Summary
I know for most, these seemingly small and pointless things. Most use or work on only one image at a time were I don't. I use Paintshop to create, Not just edit. I don't do photos. I build images, brands, logo. So these three tools are the ones I use the most and are the three that have changed to a less helpful tool then what was in PSP8 which I started with up to X1 that I use now. X2 & X3 I've neither have or used. So if these issues (As I see them) started in either of these I have no way of knowing.
The latter versions are and have improvements with many other tools that I do use on a frequent bases but these improvements don't out way the backwards steps being made to the above three seemingly small things above mentioned. They have had so much of a impact on my work that it doubles the time it takes to start and finish a project. This causes a very high amount of frustration, enough that I refuse to move to them.

I truly hope that this is taken on board by the Dev and these are addressed sooner then latter. They are all things that used to work and work well. I'm confused as to why they no longer do so and have be replaced by what I see as a backwards step.

I don't see the reasoning behind the idea of having the three different modes now it PSP. All the things that can be done in either mode can be done in Edit mode and the Organizer which is there all the time. Why would it need to be duplicated as another mode? Manager. All things in Adjust mode are in Edit plus for more. Why do we need Adjust mode?

Simple things made complex is never a good thing to do. Though it dose seem to be the way all things are going doesn't mean PSP need to follow. It's backwards thinking, not forwards.

I'm still dumbfounded at the reasoning behind restriciting the UI layout so that those items can only be docked to the right.
I upgraded to X5, discovered I couldn't dock many items to the left, and haven't used it since. That limitation alone was a show stopper. Still using X3 for this reason.

I have X4. This option is available. I like it how it is as default myself but X4 will allow me to do as I please in this respect.
X5 I've used as a trial and this ability hadn't change then and again now with X6.

To dock, drag the bar you want to move into the center so it is now un docked. grab it and move it around, 4 small white squares appear, drag the bar to the one at the area you wish to dock that bar to and drop it on that square. The bars will dock anywhere around the workspace you wish it to be.

That's true for X4 and X5 but not for X6. Only the toolbars and the Navigation palette can be docked on the left in X6. The arrow in the center of the screen only points to the right for the Materials, Layers and History palettes. You can float them on the left but then they can't be rolled up.

X5, and X6 had this issue of not being able to dock to the left. In fact it was one of my first complaints with X5. A few of the palettes could still dock wherever you wanted, but I could not longer move my layers to the left where I preferred them. Or, and far more importantly, I couldn't place my histogram palette at the bottom of the screen.

The left is only a small portion of the areas I used. I want to see docking restored completely.

I would like to see the arrangement of layers back on the right click menu. I upgraded from X1 to X5 and it doesn't have that ability. Because of that you can record scripts properly. Scripts don't work when arranging layers from the top menu or when you drag them to a proper position. I will wait for X7 and hopefully it will be back where it should be. :) Thank you.

Hi Loopync,
You can get that back fronm the Edit mode by doing View > Customise click the Menu Tab, and under Context Menu choose the Layer Palette context menu and arrange that context menu how you like.
I have arranged my context menu the same as in X2, X3 for X4, X5 and next X6. I find it easier to just right click on any layer and go to my choice rather than moving to the bottom of the layers palette and selecting the right tiny button to get my required items. The layers are much larger target areas than the buttons at the bottom.

Better Folder Structure: Wishlist for version X7

Post by yogirajj »

I would like the ability to organize imported brushes, frames, and textures by category. Currently everything is plopped in to one view, this is unexceptionable for people who have hundreds, perhaps thousands of creative material. Also, it would be nice if you guys can organize the content folders better. I should not have a "Corel Paintshop Pro", and a "My PSP Files" folder. In addition, I should also never see a 15.0, 16.0m and a separate "My PSP Files" folder. Why can't you guys fix this for customers who've upgraded? You guys focused so much on making PSP interface look pretty, that you've let the folder structure go to the toilet. I've Purchased PSP x2, x3, x4, x5, and now x6; and my files are all over the place! Hello? And what's up with the "Corel_01", "Corel_02", "Corel_03", "Corel_04", etc? Why can't the contents of these be placed in the "My PSP Files" instead of all over the place? Thanks..

You can move them. I've emptied all of those folders. Anything that was worth keeping I put in my own location. The rest I deleted.

I know, but it's annoying to do each time I upgrade. I don't want to have do deal with file locations, and pointing to folders etc. That's not something I look forward to. When I upgrade, I expect everything to be in one central area, and preferences saved, so that I don't have to try and remember to re-point directories. In addition, being able to organize my brushes by category when I import is REALLY helpful. Not everybody is an average user who only limit themselves to 1 or2 brushes (ever).

Here are my wishes for X7 :
  • showing the position coordinates (from the upper left corner of the workspace), the width and the height of the selected object width the “Object selection tool”
  • possibility to change the size of an object by entering the height and width numeric values
possibility to exactly put the selected object on the workspace by entering numeric values
  • When I use « Bezier curve » (for example, but still the same problem with rectangle tool, text tool, etc.), I can put a point or a node of a control arm out of the image on the workspace, if I must zoom in to work with precision, no way to slide the workspace to select the point or control arm node outside of the image.
  • Possibility to snap objects to each other.
  • Sometimes, if I invert a raster selection, the part of the selection marquee can be out of the image. At this moment, no way to remove it. It can disturb an effect.
  • When I modify a selection by adding or removing part with the freehand tool selection for example, while tracing on a zoomed image, if the cursor goes out of the workspace the image is moving but the existent marquee is not redrawn : no way to see where was the existing selection.
  • possibility to show the maximum width and height of a drawn selection
  • Improve the effectiveness of tools for drawing and editing (gum, brush, editing tools such as drawing, smudging etc..) using a large brush. On a rather powerful machine (Core I7 Xtrem / 12G Ram / NVidia GTX285 + GT520 / Windows 8 Pro / 3 monitors) it is unusable, a brush stroke size of 700 with a rigidity of 50 takes a lot of time, usually we only see a quarter of line and the rest is calculated once the mouse button is released. Unusable with a tablet too.
  • It would be interesting to create a gradient that follows a bezier curve and not only a straight line step. (I do not know if this functionality exists by your competitors).
  • When viewing the right pane of the Layer palette, when a layer blend mode is different than "normal" it would be nice if the word or the background color was different.
  • With the text tool, it’s always impossible to modify easily the leading, tracking and Kerning value with the keyboard. While writing the new value, for example “-0,05” the software tries to render the new value, and shows errors. The software should wait more time or wait until pressing the enter key to render the entered value.
  • If the option "Auto-Preserve” is disabled, we should have a choice in the File menu "Save with preservation ".
  • It would be nice if the “open” state of grouped layers was saved. I sometimes have up to 80 layers and groupes on an image I have to spend lot of time to open or close layers to work on the part that interests me.
  • Make the swatches window more efficient, it would be nice to show a list with thumbnail and names and to save/load some swatches template
  • For each new main version, it should be nice to have the possibility to import former Workspaces Layers from previous version.
I use PaintShopPro for my business every day, thank you for your work

Sorry for my bad english.

Hi .. I have had PSP since PSP 7 then I had 8,9,X3X4X5 I just got PSP X6 been working it for about 5-6 days already but have a few problems

1: the color of the work screen and tools that black is a killer on eyes the gray is better but please offer at least one light color you all use to have it in a cream/off white color loved it easy on eyes if you spend hours on it

2: plugin support and fixs for older and newer plugins it is better in PSP X6 but could be better my psp group most of them is having trouble with plugins they are used to certain old ones .. and if it has this option have not found it yet it would be nice to have one screen instead two if you are working with 64 bit plugins instead of having to safe and reopen file in 32bit or 64 bit screen would like to merge the screen

3: I agree someone ask for it to and I ask for it last version The text tool pop up box you type and it remembers and stay in one place .. I know it is there hidden but would like to have it like pop up like in the older version when you click the text tool .. the text tool can be improved I hate where you type on the screen .. it moves and freezes on me ..

4: I was hoping you all would re-add this in 6 I know there is a script for it and have it but my psp group hates it and complains allot about it the old Flip and mirror option missing the new options is not the same .. as old

5:I have PSP & Photoshop both started with PSP and love them both .. and with Adobe with the cloud rental ( by the way hate that ) I see PSP looking and working like Photoshop .. little more .. each version and I love it that is a good thing .. but there 3 things I use the most in Photoshop and I keep Photoshop for you all have Photoshop Brushes Yeah !! and you are starting up with the layer styles in the layer pallet . . Yeah it is not like Photoshop's and that is what every PS user uses the most you but needs lots lots improvement you guys are starting with it but that needs improved with each version out each and offer more tools and options under layer styles like PS ..

6: I know there is PSP scripts for PSP .. but I would love to see where you can use Photoshop Actions or PSP scripts or both in PSP ( there is lots more PS Actions then PSP Scripts to do and get ) in the scrabooking online stores .

Thanks for reading this and hope to see these options back on there or added ... specially no# 5 and 6
