I wont shrink from this problem!

Post by tonyjer »

Hi everyone

I am trying to use DVD Shrink to back up one DVD to another. (the original was created and burnt using DVD Shrink)

I select open disk and then full disk back up.

After 21% of encoding you get an error message stating “DVD Shrink encountered an error an cannot continue. Failed to read file Q/ overlapped I/O operation in progress”.

Can anyone help me on this? I thought this was a fairly regular operation and I have done it once or twice before without any problems.

Many thanks as usual

not sure what's causing that error, but since it's something you burned onto DVD disc, can you just copy/paste the VIDEO_TS folder onto your hard drive, and then burn from your hard drive?

Antonio,
out of curiosity, what version of Shrink are you using? Have you checked the Shrink homepage and looked at the various versions history for problems that existed and were resolved?

You can turn off overlapped I/O in the Preferences. It's a way of speeding up processing, but it is more demanding on the system. Since you are running on Windows 98 or ME if I recall correctly, I would just turn this feature off.

Since the source is also a burned DVD it could be an error on the disk. All burnable disks have errors, just a fact of life. DVD players are more error tolerant than the PC.

Try copying it on a different PC and find out if it happens there too.

Hi Antonio,
I'm still interested to know which version of Shrink you are using. Reason I ask is I've been using Shrink, v. 2.3 since '03 and like you also use ME as my OS. Your problems and questions interest me because of our common OS and use of Shrink.

If the forum had PM capability back I would have gone that route instead of on the forum.

Thanks,

Hi erock

I am in work at the moment but I think my version of shrink is 3.2.0.15.

Does that sound right?

Yes Antonio, that's the latest ver., it just came out. I never updated because v. 2.3 has worked flawlessly for me from day one. I'm not one to fix what works. That's why I took my time to upgared from VS6 to VS8 and I won't go to VS9 until things settle down a bit.
I'm curious, have you used the ISO splitting feature Shrink added in 3.2.0.14? It was intended for users with a Fat32 file partition, like our ME OS. It's supposed to split an ISO that is over 4gigs and also create an .mds file that will link the 2 ISOs. I believe DVD decrypter can use the .mdf file. If you haven't done so, you should check out the forums on AfterDawn & Digital Digest.
