I'm getting the same thing in X6 on Windows XP. I get an error message saying that X6 has to close.

Works OK here with X6 64-bit. All three drawing modes:

Print Layout Problem

Post by Gene K »

In both 32 and 64 bit version, I do not get a "transparency" in Print Layout showing the paper outline under the image. Also, the paper outline doesn't show margins.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hi all,

here's my contribution to the bug list:

Sometimes (often?) PSP X6 32 bit freezes when I select part of the image with the new selection brush, and want to open the histogram to adjust the selection. After clicking on the histogram icon on the toolbar, most of the icons turn black (deactivated) and the program freezes, I have to kill it via Task Manager (and no, the program is not busy, there is no CPU activity). This happens every now and then, it happened about twice with good old magic wand too. :(

How often and under exactly what circumstances (i.e. what was I doing before etc.) I cannot say because I'm avoiding now the selection brush. If I'm lucky PSP will recover the image with all changes made until the freeze from the temporary folder, but if I then start PSP again, and try selection and histogram first thing, PSP can freeze again and the processed image is lost. Because there wasn't any completed action PSP won't save it in the temporary folder again.
Have a nice day /evening /night

Try checking "Show Nodes". Once I did that, I was able to successfully draw in raster mode without PSP shutting down. Of course, as soon as I unchecked it, and tried again, PSP closed.

I decided to check to see if X4 has the same problem and it does have a similar one. I can use the Pen Tool to draw raster lines but, if I attempt to undo what I've drawn, PSP closes. It doesn't happen every time, like in X6, but most of the time. I haven't worked out yet if clicking the Apply button before undoing helps or not. It does look like it's only the point-to-point setting that crashes and not freehand mode in X4.

I take back what I said. I just opened X4 again, drew a shape in freehand raster mode, connected the ends and clicked apply. When I started to undo my steps, PSP closed with the same error message. Checking "Show Nodes" in X4 also prevents the crashing.

I posted about this bug on Michele's PSP forum and so far one member got theirs to crash and another one had no crash. The one who did get a crash also had it crash X4 as well as X6. Both are using Windows 7, I think. I'm the only one still using XP.

So, when is Corel going to address these issues ? I would like to use my Scanner with the 64 Bit version and it has been quite a bit of time since this was first reported.

This one is not Corel's fault. Make certain the 64-bit driver for your scanner is installed. Virtually all new scanners sold today come with both x32 and x64 drivers. If you have an old scanner, check the manufacturer's site to determine if a x64 bit driver has been released.

If there's no x64 driver, check out Ed Hamrick's VueScan software at http://www.hamrick.com/. It's designed to keep old scanners running on modern Windows computers. It will cost $40 USD, but you can try it first without spending the money.

Re the Pen tool causing a crash.
The steps to do were:
1. Choose the Pen Tool and uncheck "Create on Vector" and also uncheck "Show Nodes".

2. Draw a shape or line using any of the drawing modes.

I have X6 32 on Xp Home computer. Tried that procedure and no problems til I started to draw about the 5th or 6 th line then a crash.

Re started and did the same procedure and try as I might was not able to repeat crash, used different modes node and no nodes , lines joined and not joined . Then out of frustration tried to hit button and do lots of lines and accidentally hit the right mouse button and then it crashed

Repeated a number of timess and found that it has to do with a failed right mouse context button after you have drawn a line or two, .
The right mouse button works if you have not drawn anything, but after a line is drawn right mouse click sends it crashing.

Update: This bug has been around since X4. The Right click context menu worked OK from X3, X2 and PSP8.
It causes a crash in X4, X5 and X6 under the above conditions.
Have not tested it in Windows 7 as yet.

OK, it's that right-click that causes the crash here in Win7.

PSPx6 bug with File/Export: incorrect file extension

Post by Jon56 »

When I save a file as pspimage, and then use the File/Export to export as a PNG or JPEG file, PSP tries to save the new file with the original .pspimage extension instead of automatically changing the extension to .png or .jpg.

Correct behavior would be to automatically change the extension to match the file format.
