Wow, not a great start. Have just purchased the update to X6 Ultimate, excited about the prospects of 64 bit and, maybe, a bug free release. Wrong.

Worked fine for a while. Tried it again and it now hangs on the splash screen saying that it is 'Updating Cache Settings..". Any fix? I tried looking at the Support site but that doesn't say that X6 is supported which makes me wonder if us lucky and loyal customers who buy a pre-consumer release upgrade are doing beta testing on the sly?

:?

oh and I've just tried removing all the files from

C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\16.0\Cache
and
C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\16.0\Database

these are duly recreated upon startup but the splash screen still sits there saying 'Updating Cache Settings'

The only thing I changed from a clean install was to add some plug-in lookup paths. Will try a re-install if I have to.

Yes, I've installed the latest driver I could find.
(5600F Scanner Driver Ver. 14.0.7 (Windows 8 x64/7 x64/Vista64))

It is still available for PSP X6 32bit

Update for scanner issue:

If I choose

File > Import > From scanner or camera (don't know if this is the english menu because I am using PSP in german language)
a window appears with the header "WIA CanoScan 5600F....".
pressing the "scan" button works fine. !!!

But with
File > Import > TWAIN-Source
the following list is empty.

With 32bit the list is showing "CanoScan 5600F 14.0 (32-32)" and "WIA-WIA CanoScan 5600F 1.0 (32-32)"

It seems that there is no 64bit driver installed.
But I installed the original driver from the canon-driver page.
Description for this driver is:

"
5600F Scanner Driver Ver. 14.0.7 (Windows 8 x64/7 x64/Vista64)
Description
This product is a TWAIN-compliant scanner driver for Canon color image scanner.

Just a comment for everyone. Would it be possible for all the posts to first be made in the normal fashion. ie in a regular thread. Then and only then if no answer is found then make a post on this thread.
Why? Because many issues are not bugs but simply user issues or setup issue. If something works on one computer and not another it doesn't automatically indicate a PSPx6 bug. If we post everything on this thread it will soon bog down and become a nightmare to follow.
First try to establish that the issue is indeed a bug before using this thread.
If we want those at Corel to take notice we need to may it as simple as possible for them to follow/find 'real' issues.
Sorry if I'm stepping moderators toes here. I sorry if that's the case.

LindaSue wrote:Is anyone else getting screen artifacts on the X6 workspace? The border around the workspace area shows whatever is on my Windows desktop behind the PSP window. It's as if that thin border is transparent. It does seem to be an intermittent glitch because it's not always that way. It seems like it happens when I've first opened X6 and eventually goes away after I've opened and closed few images. It happens with both workspace colors but it's more noticeable with the dark scheme.

I just shut down X6 and reopened it and the glitch returned. What you see below is part of this forum around the border of the workspace:
workspace_glitch.jpg
When the glitch goes away, there isn't a contrasting border around the workspace at all.
I am having the same issues but only intermittent.

On installing the 64 bit I have similar issues that have been mentioned above.

1. The jpeg and png optimizer keeps the .pspimage file extension. I either have to delete the extension or overwrite with .jpg/png on each save which is a pain.

2. The .gif optimizer STILL does not work with .gif that have transparency and the save image is corrupted. This has been the same for the past 4 versions and still has not been fixed, I have to manually Save as any .gif files with transparency.

3. The 64bit simply will not see my CanonScan 8800F Scanner. I have reinstalled the 64bit driver for Canon ( numerous times). Done all the other workarounds but it refuses to see the scanner.
The work around of using "File/Import/From Scanner or Camera" is not an option as the quality of the scan is unacceptable.
Using the scanner is a major part of my work and this is a major bug and needs fixing fast.

4. What appears to be a transparent border of the Edit workspace that shows the desktop behind PSP, not a bit deal but doesn't say much for memory usage.

I have uninstalled the 64 bit and installed the 32bit as the bugs with the 64bit version are preventing me from working efficiently and right now I'm feeling a little ripped off.

I have the same problem with my Canon 8600f.
I use a workaround by programming a button on the scanner to open the scanned file in X6 (64-bit), it opens the scanner software in one go.
If Paintshop Pro is already open it shows the scanner software right away.

Image

The 64 bit exe is not in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X6' but in 'C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X6 (64-bit)'

Reading through the previous posts...

PSPX4 was disaster for me, it was buggy as hell and it couldn't understand the colors produced by my camera.

PSPX5 fixed everything as far as I was concerned.

Personally I've found no issue with the 32bit version of PSPX6 on my 64bit machine, but the 64bit version of the software does seem to have a few issues. I will say that I've been able to use my CanoScan LiDE 700F in 64bit mode via "Import>From Scanner or Camera...".

Okay so the main issue I seem to have is with scripting and perform batches. Recording a script work fine, but playing it back via the batch option, the script will work on the first file but then just sits there never progressing to the later files. Play the same script back in the 32bit version (from the same directory) and it all works fine!

any bug fixes?

Post by terrya84 »

Has anyone heard from Corel about bug fixes for PSPx6 64bit version, especially the .jpg and png Optimizer tools and the scanner issue.
Workarounds are fine but the underlying bugs should be fixed as we shouldn't have to resort to work-rounds that create extra work.

Thanks for any update

chromiumdomium wrote:I've found that the way colour profiles are dealt with seems to be broken between X4, my current version, and my X6 trial. Any of my Tiff files saved in Prophoto or aRGB from Lightroom 5 are dealt with differently between versions. Indeed sRGB files look much duller than usual. Before, in PSPX4, the Manage tab would display what I believe was an sRGB interpretation of any given file. When I came to edit the image, if my working colour space was sRGB, it converted any images with different colour spaces to that space. An sRGB version of the image and a Prophoto version would look to all intents and purposes the same in the Edit window and in the Manage previews. Conversely, If my working colour space is Prophoto then the sRGB image is likewise converted upon selecting "Edit" and then appears the same as the ProPhoto version in Edit mode. This is no longer the case with PSPX6.

In PSPX6, sRGB, Prophoto and aRGB look wildly different in the Manage Tab and the various conversions depending upon selected Working Colour Space look either far too saturated or have curious colour shifts. The Prophoto versions tend to veer blues towards purple and greens become somewhat "electric" in appearance.

I use i1-display pro, profiled Wide Gamut Monitors and they are both closer to Adobe RGB than anything else; photos with this profile are the ones that appear nearest to what I'd expect in both Edit and Browse (Manage modes). With PSPX4 all formats convert to appear the same in whichever Tab Manage, Adjust or Edit. in-fact if I'm quick in PSPX4 I can see the display adjusting the prophoto and aRGB versions to what I believe is an sRGB representation for display purposes as they initialise in browse and thumbnail sections. Identical Colour Management settings in PSPX6 just don't yield anything like the same. sRGB thumbnails look very dull. aRGB (close to my monitor profile) Look sort of okay. Prophoto - just plain weird.

I notice in PSPX4 that even though the colour managed section shows my system set i1-Display profile in the monitor profile combo. It always showed sRGb in the Device profile of the Working Colour Space dialog. No matter what my true monitor profile was/is. I always thought this odd, but as it worked I didn't question it. In PSPX6 it has now changed to the Monitor Profile as seen in the colour management section, I wonder if PSPX6 now failing because of this.

At this point I cannot use PSPX6 for my photo editing and would really love to take advantage of the 64bit memory managed version. I hope a fix or explanation can be found quickly for this issue. NB: All my other programs DPP, LR5, CS5, ACDsee and PSPX6 and others do not have any issues with my setup, only PSPX6 :-(
I am seeing the same thing - colors are very muted.

I am attaching two screen shots - same file but from X5 and X6 versions - you can definitely see that the black in X6 is more of a dark gray than a true black

I too can not use either of my Scanners with the 64 bit version of X6. I have a Canon 9000F and an Epson V500, both use the latest drivers and state they are for 64 bit windows.I hope this get's resolved quickly as I use the scanner and PSP daily. :(

Hi Joanne,

I'm not sure if this will help I've posted a more visual representation of what's going on for me here.

FWIW, I have just installed PSP X6 Ultimate. I have two scanners -- a Canon 5400F connected via USB, and a Brother MFC-9340CDW connected by wireless. I have just installed the latest 64 bit driver for the latter. In X6 64 bit, Import > TWAIN source shows no sources, and TWAIN Acquire thus does not work. However, Import > From Scanner or Camera picks up the Brother with no problem and works. It does not detect the Canon at all. I had thought the 64 bit driver for the Canon had been installed by Win 7 64 bit but I could be wrong...

X6 32 bit lists both the Canon and Brother under Import > TWAIN source and Acquire. However, under Import > From Scanner or Camera, like the 64 bit version, it does not list the Canon, but does list the Brother.

Wow Greg! What a difference - blue has turned purple in X6 :S That's not good at all! I use PSP for scripting purposes - I create scripts for scrapbooking designers, so color isn't as important to me as functionality between versions, but that is a huge difference - and in some cases I think even I would have problems with it too :(

Has there been any response from Corel to these issues and a possable timeline as to when they will release a fix for this ? I use PSP with my scanner on a daily basis and would really like it to work with PSP X6 64-Bit.
