No 64-bit application can call a 32-bit plugin. That's why Photoshop, PaintShop Pro and PhotoLine install both 32- and 64- bit versions of their products -- so you can use your 32-bit plugins in the 32-bit version of the software.
Thanks! I really didn't connect all of that up. Was glad to see so many posts on the thread I started, and your post here, explaining to me in a manner that completely removed my frustration and anger!

Again, thank you sir for your kind response!

Would you install Twacker?

http://www.twain.org/images/docs/Twack_64.msi

It's provided by the TWAIN Working Group. This is the 64-bit version. The 64-bit version does not find my scanner. Meaning that my scanner is not 64-bit TWAIN compatible. If it finds your scanner, then yes let's mob up on Corel. If it doesn't, then maybe the 64-bit portion of your driver isn't 64-bit TWAIN.

And it's not much of a workaround if you already have VueScan to use their plugin. The plugin was specifically designed to give Photoshop the ability to use VueScan in the absence of TWAIN.
I installed Twaker 64, it sees Vuescan and seems to work with it just fine, it does not see the Canoscan driver, but PSP X6-64 Bit does not see anything, the 32 Bit Version sees both Vuescan and the Canoscan drivers.

So the Canon 64-bit is not 64-bit TWAIN ready but VueScan is.

Then we can hate on Corel. :D

I don't know if Corel monitors the forums for feedback, I would just like them to recognize the issue and release a patch. Getting through to their support on the Corel website is a major pain. It asks for a Support Code that they claim came in my purchase receipt they sent via E-mail, but there is no such thing on the receipt making it impossible to contact them with out paying for it, which I will not do. Their customer support is pretty much useless.

Submit Question
If you are having trouble registering or receiving your support code, please visit our registration assistance page.
If you don't have your support code you can contact them via this form to get it sorted out: http://corel.force.com/support/regRequest?lang=en_US
I followed I think five different links to find it.

Keep in mind all other inquiries through that form will be ignored. Only registration/activation issues. And since Support codes are a registration issue you should be able to get one from that.

As for Corel's patches, they don't release patches for just one problem. They create entire service packs. So whether or not this problem is on their list, I don't know. And we won't know until they've set up a service pack with a few various fixes.

I can in 64bit X6.

I've not used the TWAIN acquire since PSP3. X5 couldn't TWAIN and now neither can X6. I've trained myself to use the : File | Import |From Scanner or Camera - option.

This is working fine with my EPSON 580.

Yes, I am getting the exact same thing in the exact same place. It doesn't happen every time I open the program but I have found that if I grab the edge and drag a little it corrects itself.

I’ve found a couple of minor issues with PSP X6, though for me the first issue has been around for the past couple of versions. The first is with the 'Tools' toolbar dropping after I open anything in Fullscreen Preview (see image), even a NEW blank image. The 'Tools Options' bar also increases in height.
It is, like I said a minor issue, but I would prefer not having to drag the toolbar back up after each Fullscreen Preview. Yes, I could leave it where it is, but that's not where I'd like it, as the Oil Brush is basically sitting on the status bar. (I am using small icons). My partner still uses PSP X5 and the Icons seem to take up a lot less space on the toolbar, whether they are smaller or just closer together I'm not sure.
I have seen another forum where someone suggested being able to lock toolbars because of accidently moving them whilst using wacom tablets etc, perhaps this could be a solution. Even using a mouse I have occasionally un-docked a toolbar.

The other issue which has only appeared with PSP X6 is that with extra items added to both the 'File' and 'Image' dropdown menus, the menus now drop down behind the windows taskbar,(again, see image). The 'File' menu does have an arrow to show the rest of the menu but this arrow disappears as soon as I go near it. With the 'File' menu it is only 'Exit' which is hidden, and with the 'Image' menu it is 'Watermarking' which is mostly hidden. Again, a very minor issue, but should anything more be added to the menus it could get interesting. A quick fix for this is to have the Windows taskbar Automatically hide, or use PSP in 'Full Screen Mode'.
My maximum resolution is 1366x768 so I can't increase it unless I buy another monitor. :? Thanks all.

Re: PSPx6 Bugs and Fixes - vectors

Post by JudyM »

I am having trouble [as in X5] in selecting multiple vector layers in the layers palette...either to group them or to create a raster selection from them.
The only way I can do so is by clicking on a vector within a vector layer and going up to selections> select all and then Objects> group. I then have to drag out any layers that I don't want.
In other versions I can simply use the shift key to make my selections within the layers palette....as suggested in the help notes for X5

Can any one offer a solution?

Manage Tray does not work correctly in v64

Post by MarkZ »

In the 64 bit version of X6 you cannot move the thumbs around to a different sequence. When you grab a thumb and move it, it appears to move according to the black bar but in fact the thumbs jump around in what appears to be a random manner. It appears that regardless of which thumb you move it is the first one that moves to a different location.

In v32 you can move the thumbs in a tray into any sequence you want. This is great for comparison so you can move images into a specific sequence and compare in full screen mode. In other applications they call this an album rather than a tray.

Re: PSPx6 Bugs and Fixes- resizing issue with some pictures

Post by LostSoul »

I don't know if this has already been reported but I encountered an issue on image resizing which happens only on particular images (jpegs) and is reproductible.
When trying to resize, I got the following error:
"Runtime error! Program: ... This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Image

Then, I got the image resize dialog box, but without any values in the different fields.

Image

At that stage, the application is frozen and I kave to kill it using the task manager ..
You can find a sample picture to reproduce this bug here.

Using PSP x6 64bit on Win7 x64, all patches applied, AMD Phenom II x6 + 16GB RAM, 2560x1440 rez. Note that I had similar problems with the X4 version but without the application freezes. It was just displaying the resize box in the same way but didn't crash so I presume the issue was pre-existing in the code.

I never had that happen, and I resize JPG files a lot before converting to PNG for use in this forum.

Can you check if you can do it with the sample image ?
Seems it may be related to some meta-data in the file because, if I make jpeg to jpeg conversion with an external tool such as XNView, the problem disappears.

I tried your image in PSP8, X2, X3, X4, X5,. The error lies in the out of range resolution information which reads as 40704 pixels per inch.
The image reads and resizes OK in PSP 8, X2 and X3, where the resolution defaults to 200 pixels per inch if out of range.
In X4, X5 and X6, the programmers have not forseen and programmed for an out of range dpi and so the program hangs or refuses to open the dialog box.
Another "rare" instance of poor programming by Corell programmers???
