Re: Background music too loud?
OK here is a sample with 5 x 10 seconds of the same audio clip.
Sample 1: using fade-in and fade-out. I set it to 2 seconds for the duration. I can hear the volume change
Sample 2: I changed the volume to 50% in the Music & Voice panel. To me, not much change from the 100%
Sample 3: I used the mixer to reduce the sound to -35. The sound IS lower but still will compete with the video track.
Sample 4: I reduced the volume to 10% in the Music & Voice panel to 2%. Better, but still too loud for my need.
Can I go lower than that?

Re: Background music too loud?
Hi Cassel
Don’t have much time to test this tonight, time to close this machine.
However I see the fades in the first clip but no changes in the other clips.
If you open the VSP again the volume levels of % should still show as set not 100%.
Can you set 50%
Save and close the VSP
Open the VSP to view the % settings.
Do they now revert to 100%, they should show as 50%
I guess they revert to 100% as that is what you have been telling us.

and then the fifth clip
Maybe it does not display the same when you open it than when I do? Maybe this will give a better "picture" (no pun intended) of what I am working with.

Re: Background music too loud?
Hi Cassel
Good morning, apologies I had problems linking your VSP so did not see the audio edits.
Today is a new day and can now see what you have done..
For this VSP you have reduced the duration to 10 seconds for all sample clips.
The first with the Fade in-Out shows a fade out over the entire 10 seconds, again strange but maybe due to reducing the length.
The rest are a combination of 100% sets and Sound Mixer, using both methods may be causing some issues.
OK
When you view the clips in Sound Mixer you should click to select a clip, then you will see both coloured lines. At this time ignore the vertical slider.
To play the clip you should switch to Project Playback not Clip Playback.
Only when you play will the slider show the correct level.
In addition the vertical channel indicators will show levels. Compare these for each clip and you should see a difference between 100% - 50% - 10%
I have attached a Smart Package, open the VSP
Sound set by 100% options, no Sound Mixer tweaks.
Play from the normal timeline to listen to the volumes, should reduce every 15 seconds.
Then play using Sound Mixer, Project playback, note the level indicators, again shouls reduce every 15 seconds

Re: Background music too loud?
I see the problem before rendering, while editing so it would not be due to rendering, although I guess it would not help if it has a compounded issue.aljimenez wrote:I have had erratic results adjusting volume on inserted music. I have never pursued it to any depth to get to the bottom of it. I am wondering if it is the type of project file being created. I usually create AVCHD files, 1080p and was wondering if that is the same file you create. It may be that the problem is in the rendering portion of X6... Al

Re: Background music too loud?
Well, after rendering and uploading a sample of my current project to youtube, I found out that what I hear while playing my project file in VS is NOT the same as what comes out in the end.
The background music being too loud, seems like it is not the same volume once rendered. I had the volume at 2% to be reasonable when I was listening to it in VS directly, but once rendered, the music was inaudible. I ended up rendering about 10 versions to hear what I was getting.
So now, I am wondering if there is a setting I missed to make sure that what I hear in VS is what i'll get once rendered?

Re: Background music too loud?
Did you ever get this issue handled? I ask because I seem to have something similar.
I have background music that is too loud compared to the overlay track (I have a picture-in-picture with a Rotopen map in the video track). I have tried the following:
1. Reduce the overall music clip in the music track to 30%.
2. Further reduce the music clip using the sound mixer or just adjusting the pink horizontal lines directly.
3. Various combinations of the above.
When I play the project it seems marginally OK. When I actually create the mpeg file, the background overwhelms the voices.
Project settings:
NTSC double (60 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 60 fps
Frame-based
Uncompressed
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 bits, 5.1 Channels
I've looked at every post I can find. So I've been very painfully going back and forth, writing the mpeg, and then listening, then trying again. Reminds me of the definition of "crazy," when I keep trying the same things and expecting different results. I even purchased a new computer for videos (Alienware)--so of course this is a new installation--and although I can write the mpegs much faster, I have the same problems as I did on my prior Dell.
Anyway,if you've had any luck, please share. And I'll do the same.

Re: Background music too loud?
So far, the main explanation is that the voice track was too low and needed to be upped by 400% (possibly a microphone issue), but I will need to redo something, possibly with another microphone to determine if it is mic related or VS related.
On the other hand, I was in touch with the tech, and for some odd reason, what I hear in the VS is not necessarily what gets rendered in the end, which means it is a bit of a guessing game to determine what level should things be. So we have not figured that out yet.

Re: Background music too loud?
8 years later and this bug still exists. It IS A BUG.
So here's the problem....you edit a video with some background music. In VSP all the sound levels are good. You render the video and the audio level in the background is WAY TO HIGH. Almost like you didn't change it at all....
I had this problem too. I've got lots of videos edited in VSP and never had this problem......So why now.
Simple. When I added the audio file, I did a drag and drop out of Windows File Explorer into the timeline. NOT!
So, I created a folder in VSP, added my audio files to it (Like I normally do). Replaced the audio files in the timeline, edited it all again for levels and what do you know...It rendered correctly.
So...yet again, I have invested WAY TOO MUCH TIME dealing with VSP. I'm gonna reconsider spending a little more to license a better product and not waste so much time screwing with VSP. I say that with experience in software dev. I'd have fired my release team if it was consistently broken....did I mention how often VSP crashes? Save often.

What version of VS are you using (VSP is a VS project file)?sbirdranch wrote:I have invested WAY TOO MUCH TIME dealing with VSP.
Ctrl-S has been a good friend for yearssbirdranch wrote:did I mention how often VSP crashes? Save often.
I drag and drop both video and audio files using Windows Explorer so it would be interesting to understand what you're trying to say by adding "NOT!"sbirdranch wrote:When I added the audio file, I did a drag and drop out of Windows File Explorer into the timeline. NOT!
Please let us know what NLE you decide on. Resolve has a free version that might satisfy your needs.sbirdranch wrote:I'm gonna reconsider spending a little more to license a better product and not waste so much time screwing with VSP.
