I get dumber as I get older. In PSP3 (and maybe PSP4) I was able to work on several images at the same time, each seeming to have its own workspace. I could work on all images simultaneouslyby by restoring down each photo. Then I could cut, copy, color, paste whatever alongside the object photo - and even move data between workspaces. And never have to close anything.
For example, using PSP5, I just tried to cut a pix and then paste as a new selection, bit I had to close the pix I had cut. I couldn't paste alongside the original photo.
I want to be able to take bits and pieces of a few images/texts and put the pieces into a fresh workspace without losing access to any of it.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I tried the tutorials but, as I say, I'm getting dumber as I get older.
Thankfully, I kept PSP3.

in x5 the default option is for tabbed documents. like in a web browser.
if you don't like that you can turn it off in the window menu.

If you go to the Windows menu and untick Tabbed Documents it should give you what you are looking for.
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed
