Mp4 choppy when played as project but not clip

Version x4 and x6 with MP4
If I play as CLIP each individual video plays fine in my project. If I play mp4 as PROJECT it freezes and very choppy like it cant keep up with video even if I have no music or editing done to clip yet. Makes editing VERY difficult. When burnt to dvd project burns and plays fine. No problems with any other formats.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have new computer with windows 8, 8g memory and quad core

Hi

Some HD video types can be quite demanding on the pc, video studio can struggle to playback in project mode.
Video Studio uses a process called Smart Proxy, this creates duplicate clips which does improve project playback making editing easier.

Make sure that Smart Proxy is enabled, view Settings
Make sure that the proxy files have been created Settings –Smart Proxy Files Manager.
A small icon can be seen on the video thumbnail indicating proxy file is being used.

Smart Proxy files are created automatically after first adding clips to the timeline.
They do take a while to create so do not close VS till the process is completed, view Settings Smart Proxy Queue Manager.

Other wise right click a clip in the timeline and select Create Smart Proxy
