Currently using VSP X4 - which is OK for what I'm doing now.
Getting a new machine and thinking of upgrading to 5 or 6.
Questions:
>Will X4 projects transfer to 5 or 6? There are a lot of templates I use.
>What is the easiest way to move to a new machine?
> Is W7 or W8 better?
Thanks,
Upgrade & move to new machine

Re: Upgrade & move to new machine
Hi
I don’t use W8 but there does seem to be some issues with Video Studio so I would advise using W7
You can install several versions of Video Studio to the same PC so start by installing X4.
If you upgrade to X6, there should be no problems installing that as well as X4.
Projects created in X4 can be opened and edited in X6
As for templates, most if not all X4 templates will be included using X6, and more….
To sum up, I would use W7, install X4.
Then install the trial version of X6 to give it a run, no rush if X4 does what you want…

Re: Upgrade & move to new machine
Be careful when editing an older project with a newer version of VS, eg editing a project created in X4 using X6. Project files are backwards compatible (X6 will open an X4 vsp), but the reverse is not the case unless you are particularly careful when saving using the later VS version.
The default format for X6 project files have the same filetype (.vsp) but they clearly have some definition differences. You will find that you cannot open an X6 vsp with X4. Trying to do so will probably give you a file format incompatibility message. However, if you want to be able to keep using an X4 project file with X4 even after editing with X6, then make sure that you use 'save as' to save the edited file using X6, and that the file type specified is selected as X4 (in the 'save in' panel, there's a filetype box just below the name box. There are usually 3 choices - current and the last 3 versions). Pick the one that suits before selecting OK.
