Since My Documents is where I put all my *useful* files/folders, I like to keep it clean and organized. I don't want it cluttered up with folders that programs are using to store "work" files, as is the case with PSP. I went to preferences and laboriously changed ALL File Locations to the user/my-name/appdata/...etc. area. But when I saved, exited and reloaded PSP, those folders were created again. Checking the File Locations in preferences again showed that the appdata ones I had put in were still the top (primary) folder option, but the ones directing the files to "documents" had been created again as the third entry in each category.
How can I keep these folders/files OUT of My Documents?

This has come up a number of times and there is no way to stop this from happening. BTW, I don't like this behavior either.
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Don't sweat the small stuff.ExTexan wrote:How can I keep these folders/files OUT of My Documents?
Running only PSPX5 here, the total size of that My Documents\PaintShopPro folder is 1.08Mb. Since the directory is also obviously named, it's easy to ignore it when you're browsing....

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...

Ken,
Don't be so quick to decide for others what is "small stuff" or not. Corel is just one of several culprits that do this. All those extraneous folders clutter up what should be a clean, simple list of the folders I DO use. In any case, those files should be in appdata (following the "Windows way").
Kathy,
My not-so-satisfactory work-around was to simply make it a hidden folder. Maybe that will work for you until Corel starts playing by the rules.

Well, there's a "Windows way" and there's a "Windows way". Visual Studio and SQL Server both use the My Documents directory, and the last time I checked they were both Microsoft programs....ExTexan wrote:following the "Windows way"

I don't like it either. but there is nothing you an do.
you need to accept that the My Documents folder is not yours. it's a system folder and part of the windows developer guidelines is that programs store their documents there if they want you to be able to access them.
i have 33 folders in My Docs created by installed applications. it's not worth fighting it.
if you want to keep it clean then create a sub folder and use that.

Or place a shortcut in My Documents to a separate folder where you can keep your "useful files / folders"
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

If it's not "mine"... why is it named "MY Documents"?flagpole wrote:you need to accept that the My Documents folder is not yours.
I'm fine with that. But I've been using PSP for *years* and have never once needed to navigate into the folders/files under that PSP folder in My Documents. That's why I said they should be in appdata, which is where *those* sort of files need to be - out of sight, out of mind (and out of my way).flagpole wrote:...programs store their documents there if they want you to be able to access them.

You didn't name it, Microsoft did a long time ago, when they dumbed Windows down so Apple users would find a switch easierExTexan wrote:If it's not "mine"... why is it named "MY Documents"?flagpole wrote:you need to accept that the My Documents folder is not yours.
So it isn't 'yours', it's Microsoft's. It's about the only place developers at the time could be sure that a user had rights to write files, so they wrote there. And you can see by the real problems here in this forum, changing that is the least of Corel's worries, and changing it would probably break it.
