VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
I originally installed VSX6 Pro TBYB on my PC before purchasing/downloading/installing a VSX6 Ultimate upgrade from the Corel Store. After several months with no problem, I now see only a blank, white window where the Corel Guide "Welcome" message once appeared upon launch.
(Clicking on the gears icon above "Corel Guide" no longer allows me to access "Do More" and the other menus, so I won't be able to take advantage of updates.)
I realize I need to re-install the program, but is it wiser to first completely uninstall VSX6 or can I simply re-install the upgrade over the current installation?
Thanks in advance, as always.
Bob

Hi Bob
Can you confirm you have registered the program.?
Go to your Corel Account and view your registered products.
Updates and Patches can be accessed from the Corel Web site, there is a link at the top of this forum.
Have you applied the SP1 patch for X6, download direct from Corel.

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
Hi Trevor,
Upon checking, I learn that I registered VSX6 Ultimate on the day I purchased it... June 24th, 2013.
Under Registered Products at "My Account" on Corel's site, I see: "2013-06-24 ESD VSPRX6UL ML Upgrade AM"
I ran the SP1 patch for X6 on the first day it became available, which I believe was June 25th.
This issue with the blank Corel Guide screen only popped-up last week. Because I'm currently working on a project which I hope to finish today, I don't dare fuss with re-installation until my project is "in the can".
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob
OK best to leave well alone.
Flash Player as far as I know is required to run the guide, maybe a recent update to Flash has changed things.
In the meantime if there is anything particular in the Do More that you need let us know, we may be able to provide you with the files.
Don’t think re-installing will change anything, mind you, you never know.

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
THANKS Trevor,
I still have VSX5 Ultimate on my PC and when I launch that older version app, the Corel Guide screen loads and plays as normal.
But just to see what would happen, I completely uninstalled Adobe Flash Player; re-booted my PC; installed the very latest Flash Player from the Adobe site; and rebooted my PC again.
Sadly, when I launched VSX6 Ultimate, I saw the same blank, white Corel Guide screen as before. No change.
(By the way, I'm running Win 7 64-bit, so Adobe chose to install the 64-bit Flash Player. I wonder if I'm having a 64-bit vs. 32-bit glitch?)
When my project is done, I may go the route of re-installing VSX6 and I'll be sure to report the outcome here.
Cheers,
Bob

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
I had this problem so consulted Corel. They suggested uninstalling Windows update KB2670838. This didn't fix the problem so I re-installed KB2670838, re-booted and then did a Windows update. This installed KB2836502 and KB2834041. Checked VSX6. To my surprise, problem fixed.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Thanks xerxes2!
I'll wait until an afternoon when I have enough free time to tinker with that Windows Update.
As you have Win Vista on your PC and I have Win 7, I'm cautiously optimistic that the same fix will do the trick. I'll let you know.
Gratefully,
Bob

Alas, it seems I spoke too soon! Launched VSX6 this morning to discover that the fault had returned. I have asked Corel to investigate and will post their reply here when received.
Actually, I have Windows 7. Hadn't noticed that my profile showed Windows Vista, but I have now updated the entry.

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
I have given up on this. Corel have been very helpful in suggesting the uninstal of various programs that might be causing this problem, but in the end I came to the conclusion that the problem was too minor to warrant any more of their (and my) time!

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen... Me Too.
VS ProX6 16.1.0.45 (Ultimate) Windows 7.
This very same dilemma happened to me just a couple of days ago (9/25/13). I went to click on the "Help and Product Information" button/link at the upper right corner (not noticing the opening 'splash screen' "WELCOME"Corel Guide hadn't been popping up) and it was non-functional. Dead. Nada. I'll not post the entire drama, but I did get it fixed thanks to a posting I read elsewhere in this community regarding Quicktime and using an older revision. Sorry, I forgot the topic.
However, I did discover my PC had the latest version of Quicktime; apparently it auto-updated recently. According to that post I had read, I uninstalled (via Control Panel) Quicktime and downloaded/installed an older Quicktime 7.5.5 (for Windows 7 users), which was the recommended revision in that post.
BAM! The Welcome screen returned, the Help and Product Information button/link worked and all is well in the land of Oz. So, I can attest to the fact that Quicktime 7.5.5 (instead of a higher revision) worked for me. Try it.
P.S. I was hoping it would also solve the problem of not being able to hear audio on clips while they reside in the Media library. It did not, and that's a different topic.

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
My great thanks to SkyKing for reporting on his success in rolling back to older Quicktime 7.5.5 (for Windows 7 users) to revive the missing Welcome screen in VSX6 Ultimate.
Alas, I followed those identical steps... to no avail!
I'll have to hang in there until I find a cure that works for me.

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
I have the same problem with Corel PaintShop Pro X4. Blank white window when I access the Corel Guide. Blank white windows with the new product alerts too. I checked Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 and it worked fine the first time I opened it. So I thought the problem was limited to PaintShop. But then I tried opening VideoStudio again and received a notification that an update was available. I postponed it worrying that the update might cause the same situation as PaintShop. However now when I click on Corel Guide in VideoStudio it crashes the program (well it seems like a crash but eventually something times out and I see a white window that says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage or something similar)!
Rolling back Quicktime did NOT resolve the issue.
I have a version of Corel PaintShop Pro X4 in my virtual XP Mode and that is unaffected. Strange...
So both PaintShop and VideoStudio now have buggy behavior when I click on Corel Guide (the former produces a blank white screen and the latter crashes the program sort of). Seems to perhaps be tied to either Internet Explorer or the Corel server perhaps? There was an Adobe Flash update around the same time as these issues but I believe that happened after the initial problem I had with the blank window in PaintShop.
Is there any way to contact Corel regarding problems such as this without dishing out money? Something obviously isn't working right and it's nothing I've done.
Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this buggy behavior? If it's a Corel issue is it possible it will just sort itself out?

Re: VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen
Hi Guys
There does seem to be some issues accessing the Corel Guides, I believe Corel are working on the servers.
You should be able to use Alt + F4 to close the blank window and return to the program.
When you access the Guides can you leave the windows blue halo timer to complete before clicking the mouse again, giving the server time to download the page, be patient---See if that helps.
I have just tried PSP X4 which worked ok at least for me.
