Have you checked your PC mixer settings? Could be the culprit.

Regarding free webcam video capture software, you could try these:

Debut Video Capture

CamStudio

Maybe, but then, would it work fine in VS and not in Camtasia?

I'll look at those free programs. Afterall, I just need about 4 x 20 second clips of "camera" recording. The rest will only be narration.

I don't know. Does your webcam have a built-in mic? What could be happening is that one software could be capturing USB audio from the webcam while the other is configured correctly to capture from your PC sound card. It's worth investigating.

Also, your microphone input volume level might need to be adjusted.

rwernyei , I think that is exactly what happened. After I had so many issues, I asked my husband to help. He went into the control panel and noticed that more than one mic was actually active (I always assumed that if I plugged my external mic, the others were automatically being disabled, which was not the case).

After disabling all the sound input and working our way in one at the time, it helped. I also changed webcam to one that could take a larger input, so now, the image is much better. I might end up doing everything in VS now! Yay!

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Cassel

Thanks for the feedback and good news is always welcome.
Strange thing these computers…………

Out of interest please let us know if you still think Camtasia produces better quality than Video Studio
