After just completing successfully a couple of projects with UVS 10+ (thanks to the advice given on the forum). I thought it was time to upgrade. I've stayed a bit behind the leading edge and bought a new retail version of VS Pro X4 Ultimate.
Plus I have bought another PC off a family member.
It has an Intel i7 quad core @2.6 Ghz CPU, 2 off 1 tera byte hard drives and 8GB of DDR3 ram and a really high end gaming video card, it currently has Windows Vista as the OS.
Do I install VSPx4U on to vista then apply patches 1 , 2, and 3.
or should I intall the win7 OS ? then install VSPx4U. I read somewhere that win7 is an enabler for mult-threading applications which are written to take advantage of splitting tasks between the cores.
Or do I turn the clock back and instal win XP pro ?
Sometime next year that OS is going to be wide open to attacks etc. as Microsoft will not be supporting it any longer (despite the massive commerical/business base of Win XP !)
Advice please
Thanks.

Re: VS Pro X4 Ultimate installation and best OS
Hi Pedro
I would advise Windows 7
From my own experience, I ran XP for a long time, upgraded to Vista, that was the pits, re-installed XP, tried that a few times, always back to XP.
Finally upgraded to Windows 7 seems to be working fine.
Afaik Windows 7 Pro will allow you to also install XP, but has to be W7Pro??
Maybe worth looking at that option?

Re: VS Pro X4 Ultimate installation and best OS
Thanks Trevor,
I have found a good deal on a genuine copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, just waiting for it to arrive. Thought it best to steer clear of the Dell refurbishment offers on OS discs with COA. On my old Dell machine the winXP OS was tied to the motherboard, once that is fried the copy is not transferable anymore, and Dell's only response is an offer of a like for like replacement of the MB at silly money.
Regards,
Pedro
