Wrong suffix after renaming a file

Hi Folks,

I have difficulties with file renaming. Any time I rename a file i.e 'DSC_1879.JPG' to 'newname' the new filename gets 'newname.xmp'. The accoring sidecar file is 'newname.xmp.xmp'
So actually the suffix is changed to 'xmp' no matter whether the file type is jpeg or tif.
Actually I can't use the renaming function any more with this strange behavior.

Can anybody tell me how I can get rid of this issue?
