I have done a search here on the above topic but do not seem to be able to answer my question.
I have used an exceptionally good website called freeplaymusic.com for a number of years with no problems. I have just downloaded from them a .mp3 file lasting 5 minutes but when I come to load it into my project , I get an error message saying "File format mismatch". The only difference that I see between this and all the previous files I have downloaded from them is that this one has a bitrate of 320kbps compared to the previous ones of 130-190kbps.
Could this be the reason for the problem ?

Re: File format mismatch on downloaded MP3 file
Hi Terry
The Lame MP3 codec can cause some problems for editing programs.
I noticed a few years ago that MP3 using 192 and lower had no problems, but higher caused some issues. I did not investigate further given the limited audio files I used.
But yes there may be something in the kbps settings that does cause problems.
But as I say I have not tested further to prove either way.
But if you have problems with MP3 the advice would be to use Wav

Hi
Use another program to convert them to 192kbps or Wav format.
If you have to convert you may as well use Wav

Re: File format mismatch on downloaded MP3 file
The freeware audio editor Audacity can do the job easily and well. Just open the mp3 in Audacity, then Save As > .wav
