Adjusting music levels over sections not working

Post by aljimenez »

I make family videos that have photos and video clips in the order taken. I then add a background music to the music track. I have always been able to lower background music inserted in the music track over the video clips, and then bringing the level back up after the video clip is over. With VS X6, this is not working any more. One hears the level of the music lower and the level comes back up but not at the places that I have done them. Most of the time I use the Smart Music, but I have seen this problem with other music.

Has anyone seen this problem in X6?

I have always been able to lower background music inserted in the music track over the video clips
But how exactly do you do this i.e. using the rubber band method, or something else?

Yes Ken but not sure what is called. I click to display the audio; this adds an audio strip parallel to all clips that have audio. Then you click on the level of the music track to create a key, then click to the right to create another key and grab it to lower the volume, and so on.

It still works, it just does not render the file with the level edits nowhere near where I have placed them.

I am sorry but where do you see "the level of the music track"? Can you post a picture?

Thanks for the picture Al. I had figured it out in the meantime but your image confirms my understanding.

I cannot duplicate your findings. On my VS X6, it works correctly.

I added a mp3 audio clip on the music track and set a few key points. I adjusted the audio levels at those points and then when I played back the project, the volume changed exactly at the points I had set.
So this feature works correctly for me.

Yes, that's what I was referring to as "rubber banding". But I am still not sure what is happening with your video. In your finished video, do the places where you pulled down (lowered) the volume of the background music not correspond to the parts of the video you had thought you had aligned them with? If so, can we assume you did not add a video clip or more than one, before those spots in the music stream i.e. causing the following video to move further on from the music lowering points?

Or do you mean that the balance of volumes between main track and music track are not reflecting what you thought you had done?

Are you rendering a new video (Share > Create Video File>...) or jumping straight to Create Disc? If the latter, have you thought about trying the former (which would also allow you to play the new video to make sure it is all OK).

It might also be useful to know the format of the video included in the project.

It works perfectly in VS X5. The failure is in VS X6. I create AVCHD 1080p with 30fps Ken. I make no changes after adjusting the levels, going directly into creating the AVCHD file. The created file changes the levels nowhere near the places they are set. This is only a problem with X6.

In my post above I had a type and meant VS X6 (corrected now).

Do you only see the problem in the output file and only with AVCHD 1080p or does it happen for all outputs?

Could you post your AVCHD properties and I will try to duplicate.

Thanks for running a test. I use Share, Create Video file, AVCHD (1920x1080, 30p)
Since your test worked, I wonder what you created, and perhaps is my mix of many jpeg photo files and many mp4 video clips that causes the problem. I am encouraged that your test worked. I will try to generate a different rendering.
