Panasonic GH3 mp4 60fps file can't be added
Here is Mediainfo for file that VS X6 nor X5 can handle. It simply dies as soon as the file is placed on the timeline. Does anyone see any reason this Panasonic GH3 created file can't be used in VS? (60p editing is enabled)

Re: Panasonic GH3 mp4 60fps file can't be added
Hi Al. Unfortunately, I can't really penetrate that MediaInfo detail to see if there are any difference between it and other 60p AVCHD. But have you installed any disc which came with the camera? I ask because at one stage in the AVCHD stakes a couple of years ago, Panasonic was doing a lot of tweaking to the AVCHD codec it uses. Yes, it was still H.264, but with an apparently unique Panasonic twist. However, I simply don't know if they have now gone over to the standard h.264 codec.
My GoPro Hero 3 also films in the same format, using h.264 and the same audio too. I have no trouble inserting it in the X6 timeline and editing it, and even outputting it in the same format (Same As First Clip). But X6 still won't allow me to make a Custom Template using the Add function (pointing to a clip with those properties) -- and of course it would make a template for those properties made in the normal way either. So there is obviously still some way to go in Video Studio's handling of AVCHD 2.0 files.

Re: Panasonic GH3 mp4 60fps file can't be added
Thanks for your feedback Ken.
I had been doing some light edits of the video clips that the camera has been creating, and then writing new mp4 files from Lightroom after the edits. The Lightroom generated files work.
This is the first time I have attempted to insert the mp4 files that come out of the camera without any conversion and encountered the problem. I have not installed any codecs from Panasonic, nor any software from them.
Since Lightroom and Windows Media Player can play and lightly edit the files out of the camera, I suspect the problem is in VS. I have tried two other laptops, one running Windows 8, with VS X6 and all fail when this file is inserted in the timeline... Al

Re: Panasonic GH3 mp4 60fps file can't be added
Is it possible to make a very short clip and upload it to a site like Dropbox, so that we can play around with it at this end. I can also test it in Sony Movie Studio 12, Cyberlink PowerDirector 11 and Magix 2013.

Dropbox link to file that causes VS X5 and X6 to end abnormally right after it is inserted in the timeline:

Yep... sure stops X6 cold!
I'll run some experiments later today (I have a busy morning) and get back to you...

Re: Panasonic GH3 mp4 60fps file can't be added
I was so curious about this that I ran all three of the above-mentioned programs, and none of them had any problem at all with the clip. So it is quite obviously something specifically to do with Video Studio, and at a guess, it would have to be the H.264 codec used by VS. However, I still can't think why...

Yes, I have been getting that message frequently over the last couple of days. Also the site is very, very slow in responding. It sometimes takes over 1 minute before a page updates.

Re: Panasonic GH3 mp4 60fps file can't be added
I reported the Board problem to Corel a couple of days ago, but then it appeared to come right again for a while. But back to the same problem again. (In fact I just got that General Error msg when I first tried writing this reply. Tried again and the reply page appeared!!)
On the substantive issue of the VS codec problem, I will also refer this directly to the Corel exec in charge of VS development to see if they can come up with a solution.
