new bluefx and vsX6

Post by Ilene »

I upgraded to VS pro x6 -- having issues with the rendering of the newbluefx effects.... the ones that come embedded in the program render out just perfectly and are great, however the add on packages look great in the preview window but are rendering out with horizontal lines...just not clean, like the effects are trailing.... I upgraded those packaged today, from version 1.4 to version 3. I have 3D explosions, Transformations and paint blends... I rely on these effects as they are fun and more interesting to use than the fx that come with corel... and now on windows 7 I don't think I can use canopus videofx anymore... ( ken?? have you tried?)

my project settings are

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

my output settings are

MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-NTSC), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 18000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

and I have also tried output settings that match the project settings

NEw Blue offered me very little help today... I don't think Corel would have the answer either...

any suggestions???
Bizarre that the built in new blue work perfect.... and the add-on packages ( which worked in prior versions on an xp machine) are not working here.

oh and still such a bummer --- still only 20 sub folders for transitions... all the new blue fx are ending up in my "all" folder --- they just can't seem to fix this... at least in my experience.

Ilene -- no I have not tried using Canopus FX on Win 7...

As for the NewBlue FX, I bought four of the Essentials packages several years ago (I - IV). Like you they were version 1.4. It was only when I tried adding them to VS X6 that I even found out about them having a newer version which you had to pay for. I was not willing to do the latter, so just copied the relevant vft files from another computer where they were successfully installed with X5, and inserted them in the X6 VFT sub-folder. I then reset the program to its defaults by deleting C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Name]\Application Data\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0 folder. On restarting the program, a new folder is built which includes those files. And they all work perfectly... no problems at all of the type you mention. Moreover, I use the same output settings as you (only changing it to PAL) on a very regular basis, including many of the "old" NewBlue effects...

Your using them with the same operating system so I would guess it would all work the same...
basically all the files are in files are in the vfx folder as they were on my older computers. The effects look beautiful in edit mode -- they just don't render well. I tested in Adobe premiere elements on windows 7 computer and it rendered fine.
I can experiment by renaming a vfx file from the xp machine -- like pizzabox-xp.vfx and placing it in the windows 7 folder and seeing if it behaves differently. I can't imagine it would.
I'm also installing V6 on the xp machine to see what happens...

thanks for getting back to me --- as always --- it's been a while

I ran my little experiment and loaded X6 on the xp machine to see if the new blue fx would have the same issue with the render that it did on win 7. Lo and Behold the answer was yes. I took two photos, set them to the same duration, utilized a new blue fx , set the project properties and project output to same, and duplicated the project in X5 and in X6 -- remarkable difference in the output quality... rendered on the same computer!
clearly the same issue that was happening with x6 on the windows 7 machine was happening on the x6 machine which narrows the problem down to an issue between new blue and x6 -- but it is only with the add-on packages such as 3d explsions, transformations, motion blends, paint blends etc. not the effects as I mentioned earlier that came preloaded and are in the new blue sampler folder.

I capture bmp files at 4 random points across the render and compared them... the bmp files in x6 were quite a bit distorted and rough while in x5 they were smooth and clear.

I will share a few of those bmp images here... for example. -- not sure how to add exactly, so I'm just including 2 images... if they are correct I can add more.

any thoughts -- do I go to new blue with this or back to corel?

I am not sure you will get much joy out of Corel... apart from being required to pay for tech support these days! NewBlue is usually pretty helpful, at least that has been the experience of some of us here. And since you have actually paid to upgrade the FX, then they should have something to say.

I only just realised you were talking about their FX plug-ins, whereas I of course was talking about their Essentials packs, which are filters which go into the VFT_plug sub-folder. The only NB vfx files I have in the VFX_plug sub-folder are the Sampler Pack ones. So my experience is not very much to you anyway...

If you want to upload photos here, have a look at my attached image to see where you start. That is below the window where you write these replies. Choose the Upload Attachment tab, then click the Choose File button and navigate to where your images are stored then click "Add the File". It takes a few seconds, so be patient. But it usually works!

ive been talking to new blue all day! I sent them the samples files just a little while ago. And I have paid for corel support just because.... I guess it has always been frustrating not to get a voice to talk to, helpful have you and this board been!

I will try to attach the images. I tried bmp before but now here is jpg... just one screen shot taken at the same time in x5 and x6 and you will see the difference in clarity

see below
