I just got VS6 SE BASIC with my ilink card. I did everything mentioned on the patch page: downloaded 20 effects, installed, downloaded patches, installed. But whatever I do, I don't get an option to directly record in MPEG-2 format as described on the tutorial pages. All I get is only MPEG-1. I am recording from a SONY DCR-HC40E miniDV camcorder. It captures fine in AVI but it takes up lot of space. Recording MPEG saves space but MPEG-1 quality is poor.
I can see that the patches installed a uvmpeg2.dll in the folder. But when I attempt to capture MPEG, the MPEG-2 in the dialog is always grayed out. Please help.
Thanks.
Can't capture MPEG-2 with VS6 SE BASIC

Isn't it possible that, using the SE version of VideoStudio, you will not be able to burn DVDs and therefore aren't given the option of .MPEG2 format?
I believe some of the versions supplied with burners and Firewire equipment are crippled.
Since you have a former version, you can upgrade for about $50 to the latest version--or, if you have a big electronics store nearby, get VS8 for $10.

MPEG-2 and VideoStudio 6SE
I am having the same problem. I got mine together with a Hamlet IE1394 Card. It will save to a DV file, no problem, then can be made into a DVD using NEO DVDPlus or similar. The problem with NEO DVDPlus is the quality of the menus.
I also am beginning to wonder if is a built in limitation of the SE version.
I wrote an e-mail to Tech support just a bit ago, if they respond, I will post.

Yes, it is a limitation
I got a reply from Ulead that says it is indeed the limitation of the SE version. You can use TMPENGC utility to process the AVI further.
