Video TS and VOB Files

Post by sportswizdan »

Hi...Thanks to everyone who helped me in my previous posts. I re-installed VS8 and everything went as planned, back in business but I have another question...

Since my re-install and yes I have made a video file and burnt it to a DVD. I can't locate the Audio TS, Video TS and VOB Files and dont see the "burn", "temp" or "convert" folders either. When I re-installed, I left the location to where ever VS8 defaults it to in documents and settings but I dont see them anywhere. I did see them before I did the re-install. I really dont know much about these, but they have to be somewhere and yes I did a search and still coudnt find them...Does anyone know where they might be and explain them to me?

Also, I have the ulead 8.0 folders in 2 seperate places in my document settings. When you capture or create a video file, does VS8 put them in the 2 different folders in different places?

Thanks Again, Dan

Hi an

TS Folders

These are only made when you select ‘Create Dvd Folders’ from the last burner window.
You browse and select a saving location. If you use the default location the next time you make a TS folder the first will be overwritten, you will be prompted to accept.

The TS Video folder can be played on your pc to view all the menu’s / chapters / and video in full.

Burn and temp and convert folders:-

AFAIK these folders are created by VS automatically, but only when you go through the process of rendering prior to the burn stage.
These folders will be saved to your working folder.

If you have created a video file first then burned a dvd, it should not render again and therefore will not make the burn-temp-convert folders, as they are not needed.

Creating a video file

You choose the location of the saved files from the ‘saved video file window’ from the ‘save in’ box.

Capturing
All captured files are saved to your working folder, this is allocated from the capture window or File / preferences / working folder.
I use a separate working folder for each and every project.

Hope this helps

Trevor

Thanks for your explanation re the files. I've been finding it somewhat confusing.

I have one other question which I think is related. If you render a project and save it to you HD will it stay rendered so you can burn a DVD at a later date.

P,
absolutely. When you render a project you first specify a name for the new file and a location for the completed file to be stored. When the rendering is complete you have a new, seperate .mpg2 file in the location you specified. It's for keeps until you actually delete it. Deleting the project will not affect this .mpeg. However, when you launch VS you should see a thumbnail of it in your video library. If you choose to delete the thumbnail, VS should ask if you also want to delete the file. If you choose OK, the file itself will be deleted along with the thumbnail & associated link.

Hope this answers your question,
Erock
