Is there an equivalent to Photoshop's heal and patch tools

Post by wmassie »

I was helping out in a photo studio and they were showing me how Photoshop's heal tool combines the clone and blemish tools by cloning texture from one area but keeping the colour and lighting from another. The patch tool works in a similar way but you draw around the area you want to chance and then find a textured area nearby you want to combine it with.

The main advantage over clone is you don't get repetition in the image as you would with clone. I notice in PSP that within clone you can change the merging process as you can with layers, so colour, hue, lighten, solarise etc and it sort of works but it's not as clever as 'heal' in Photoshop.

The blemish tool in PSP sucks in surrounding pixels to cover the spot much like the scratch tool but it's not the same at all.

Have I missed something or is there an aftermarket plugin? I'm using PSP X3 but would upgrade if there was an equivalent heal tool, however I'm not about to switch to Photoshop the learning curve is to vast, have been using PSP since the 90s.

No, there are not equivalents.

There are similar tools but they are not equals.

For the patch tool closest is the Object Remover tool - If you're not familiar with it, I have a small tutorial here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogyt0t_a9vc
