Install & Run two versions of VideoStudio?
I have installed and am using Corel VideoStudio Pro X4. Can I install Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 on the same computer so that both versions are working at the SAME TIME, WITHOUT CONFLICTS due to both versions being installed on the same computer?? My OS is windows 7 and my HP desktop has an Intel I7 processor.
For that matter, can I install the demo version of VideoStudio Pro X6 without causing conflict with my existing VideoStudioPro X4?
Thanks.

Re: Install & Run two versions of VideoStudio?
You can certainly have two or more versions installed on your computer. But you will find that if one version is open, and you try to start the other, it will not work -- or rather it will simply revert to the open version. I suspect it is because the relevant .exe file is the same for both versions, and has already been executed for the open version.

Thanks for the fast reply Ken.
So if I download a trial version or install a purchase version of VS Pro X6, the same caveat applies that only one version can be open at a time.
Does X-6 have the same file extension as the x4 projects (VSP)?

Re: Install & Run two versions of VideoStudio?
Hi
The trial and purchased version are the same, one needs activating.
So you can only install one.
If you install the trial version, you may be best to uninstall before installing the purchased versions, some have problems activating the trial.
Project files use the file extension VSP (Video Studio Project)
VSP’s created in an earlier version can be opened in X6.
VSP’s created in X6 can be saved as backward compatible (two versions)
So X6 projects can be opened in X4, however some edits may not work

Re: Install & Run two versions of VideoStudio?
I just purchased, downloaded and installed VSPro X6. At the time I installed it there was never a mention of uninstalling VSPro X4. I see on here that it is not necessary.
So, does X6 access any of X4s features or transition effects, templates etc, or do I have to add all those extras from the X6 Corel Guide window that loads when I click on the help button?
Also, will X6 use the My Documents/Corel VideoStudio Pro/14 and My projects folders that X4 set up and uses to place the downloaded original .avi files and the project .vsp files in?
If I do uninstall X4 will that remove the above mentioned folder and it's contents?

Re: Install & Run two versions of VideoStudio?
No X6 does not access any of the features of X4 - they are independent stand alone programmes which function completely separately - you can however manually copy many of the components of X4 into X6
If you later un-install X4 it only removes the programme files - it does not remove your personal videos or images.
I have 4 versions of VideoStudio on my computer and all run (one at a time) without any problems.

Re: Install & Run two versions of VideoStudio?
Hi Carroll
There is one main change to X6 in that the Instant Projects are now incorporated within the main library. To help additional folders have been created in
"My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro"
One such folder is "My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate"
By Template it is referring to Instant Projects templates downloaded and installed from Do-More will show in the Instant Projects Custom library page.
I believe X4 showed these templates in the main folder which soon became untidy.
As far as I know X6 has all files/templates installed used by X4.
But if you do feel you need to save some to X6 let us know which ones and we can help advise where/how to move, and indeed if its necessary.
Enjoy X6

Well it's Déjà vu all over again. The folder you mention doesn't show up anywhere in My documents/Corel/VideoStudio Pro Folder nor do any other new folders for that matter. Nothing seems to change with me and software not doing what it's supposed to. So I guess my next question is now what?
Maybe I should have asked if the service pack 1 should have been installed 1st.

Re: Install & Run two versions of VideoStudio?
Hi Carroll
Be patient, the My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate folder is only created after downloading and installing the first template.
Until then its not needed.
The same goes for the "Favorites" folder within the 16.0 folder, that is only created after saving your first DVD menu Template.
That was the same using X4
Other folders react the same, only created when you need them.

I'm still not clear on this question. Will X6 use the My Documents/Corel VideoStudio Pro folder that was set-up with 14 or will it create another similar folder for 16?
The answer is probably yes, it will use the same one, as 16 is now in 14s My documents file. Sometimes the obvious isn't obvious to me and obviously, I need to be reassured.(sorry)

The answer is NO, a new 16.0 folder will be created. Like Brian, I have a 14.0, 15.0 and 16.0 folder.

This is what shows in mine - 12, 14, 16. Then, the extra templates I added for transition effects, etc, for 14 are separate folders under the CVS Pro folder. So, I guess everything is the way it is supposed to be.
Thanks again.
