VS X5 ultimate transition effects are causing a crash

Post by hadardo »

Hi,
So far, I didn't have any problems with transition effect, but suddenly, some effects, like flip album and the ProDad plugin are causing VS to hang and not respond: flip album is causing the hang just after the automatic preview (can't turn this off) and just clicking on the ProDad plugin is freezing VS. They are also causing the rendering process to hang (turned off smart rendering as well)
I've reinstalled the software wituhout SP2 and still the problem persists.
No matter what kind of media I insert before or after the transitions, the problem is the same.
I assume there is some kind of incompatibilty between VS and some OS/driver update - any way to know for sure?

Thanks,

Doron Hadar

Update:
Tested on another machine (only the pro version) and both transitions seems to work: there is some delay and VS DOES hang for a few seconds, but it's working.
So could it be some hardware issues (mainly drivers, since no other change in my hardware)?

Update 2:
I've reset VS data. It hanged on creating the libraries when I launched it. So I moved the ablum.vfx file from the vfx_plug folder and now the program runs.
What is causing this vfx to suddenly malfunction? is it one of the .net framework updates?

Hi Hadardo

I do not think this issue has been reported before, it does indeed appear to be something that has changed on your PC. Recent updates or new installed software.

Have you updated any drivers recently?

I have just tested the Album transition which seems ok on my pc.
As far as I know I have all Windows Updates.

By the way you can turn off Media Library Animation but selecting the transition runs the effect in the library.

Hi I have the same problem but I've been sorting out another problem and forgot about it until I read this.
Both the Album/flip and the Prodad/Vitascene transitions seem to make VS 6 non responsive VS also is non responsive if I close it with one of these transitions in the timeline!

Hi Pete and Trevor,
Seems Pete is describing the same issue, but this time with VS X6!

I don't know if we should compare hardware/software. I read in Corel Support page that even a FireFox plugins may cause problems.

Any suggestions?

Hi Doron

If you wish to compare your PC specification please update your profile, your pc details will then show to the right of your post.

Can you give more details regarding Firefox, maybe a link to the relevant Corel web page.

FWIW, I have just tested this with both X5 and X6 (both Ultimate), and get a similar -- though not identical -- result. I used three short clips and put the Album transition between the first two, and Vitascene between the last two. The computer is up to date with Windows.

I would note, however, that though I get a 'Not responding' message, if I wait for between 5 and 8 seconds, the program becomes responsive again, and when I play it in Project mode, the transitions work fine.

I also rendered the project into a new video, and again the process went smoothly and produced a perfect clip with both transitions working properly.

Hi,
Here is an example in Corel knowledge base about FF plugins that interupt. Again, this is an example and it has no relevance to the issue at hand: http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... ategory=PI

My PC configuration hasn't changed - and that is exactly what I wrote in the initial post: I didn't change a thing Hardware-wise. Of course I've installed this or that software (e.g. FireFox?) and updated the OS, drivers and other software. All of a sudden, The album.vfx and VitaScene started to cause problems.

Ken, Yes, I tried these two on another machine and got the same results as yours: a "non responsive" 5-10 seconds which afterwards resulted in a normal operation. This, unfortunately, is not the case with my primary machine which I use to edit the videos. There VS just hangs and won't return to normal operation.

Two updates:
1. I got in touch with Corel support. Seems like when you write something in their VS Facebook page, "suddenly" support is all over you, free of charge. However, I can't say I'm pleased with the support I'm getting, since all they do is guesswork: uninstall this and uninstall that. So far I've uninstalled tons of software and no resolution yet.
2. I've found more transitions effect that are causing VS to freeze, mostly the 3D effects like Flying Cube and Flying Board (which, basically, are the same transition).

This is really getting annoying.

I just did a test to try and duplicate what you are seeing/describing using X5 and X6.
I created a simple slideshow with several jpeg files and placed 3D transitions between them. When playing the preview I see no problems at all. I did a screen capture of the preview playback and uploaded to 4shared.com the link to the video clip is: http://www.4shared.com/video/o3TGL7Qa/Capture_02.html

Perhaps you are doing something else and if so then please post that.

Are you doing transitions between video clips or between photo files? You need to describe the files around the transition and perhaps that may give some clues to find the problem.

I did say jpeg files - no video clips but I will test that.

hadardo did say he had the problem with every type of media. Also Waterman was also using jpegs in hist example above.

It's not just in the preview or the rendering process, just clicking on the VitaScene icon and the rest of the problematic transitions in the effects menu is freezing VS. VS won't even load when the album.vfx file is in the plugin-vfx folder. I had to move it out of there.

Hi hadardo

It really has to be something on your set up as others cannot replicate this problem.

Did Corel Facebook Support suggest installing the latest version of Flash Player.
If you haven’t tried then please do.
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Check Windows Auto Updates, I assume that was one of the things suggested.
