Metadata: Len info & Lens type exif

Post by wwinter86 »

Hi,
It would be good if the exif data for Lens Info and Lens Type was picked up by AfterShot Pro and was added to the Metadata Set Manager.

Just configure the metadata tool to show it.

I don't see options for those in the tool.

I put the Lens Data into my Aftershot Metadata listings, and when I look at my Metadata in Aftershot it shows the lens. So far so good, this is helpful

I post images on photography forums and noticed that some of the images posted by users using Lightroom show the lens, does exported files from Aftershoot carry this data so it can be displayed in on line forums. I have not been able to make that happen yet?

that information is usually not coming from the application but written by the camera into the exif metadata.
but only if the camera can identify the lens in the first place.

i refer you to the swiss army knife of metadata: exiftool
no current experience with the GUI version, so i don't know if it shows the "Lens" at all there.
when in doubt fight your way through the commandline tool. ;)

if exiftool doesnt show a "Lens" in its full output, chances are pretty much NULL that any online forum might show it.

in my experience Aftershot carries that information through.

When you export from ASP there's a box to tick to include the EXIF metadata (under the Metadata tab). I believe most if not all of the default job output presets include it. Like gruber says ASP supports it readily. If you don't see it, make sure the box there is ticked

I've added the Lens Data to my metadata listings as well, and while it added the field, I don't actually see the Lens that was used, but just a drop-down that says "Lens" (not helpful).
I have ASP 2.4, and photos were taken with a Panasonic G6 - various Panasonic lenses.

Opening the same image in ACDSee has the correct Lens models, so I know that it is stored with the image.

Any ideas what is going on here? Is there a bug with ASP? This is really frustrating and kind of makes editing in raw impossible if I can't get post-shot lens correction.

This is a very old post but it matches exactly what I'm wanting. I'm guessing the answer is, no that doesn't work but checking. My Canon 90D provides lens information. ASP shows it in Metadata Other "Lens".

I have everything you can select to be exported for metadata but that doesn't show anywhere. I use exiftool, if that says it's not there it isn't. Google photos agrees, it's not there. I'm just asking if I'm missing anything obvious but I don't think so, what a huge miss.
