VS x6 Ultimate - multi-pitcure slide show

Post by Beezer »

Hey guys, you have all been super helpful to me in the past (unfortunately I forgot my login info so had to create a new account) but I have another question about VideoStudio Pro x6 Ultimate edition.
I'll try to describe what I am trying to do the best way I can.

Basically I do a lot of dog rescue/foster stuff and doing videos (even if they are slide shows) of the dogs really helps them get adopted. I am "ok" at doing a normal slide show. Here's a link for one I have already done

But, I would like to "spice" them up a little. One thing someone suggested was doing a slide show, like above, but having multiple pictures on the screen at once. For instance a picture appears in the Upper left, then upper right, then lower left, then lower right. So there are 4 pictures that are on the screen at the same time, but appear at different times. Like if you were showing some one snapshots and setting them on a table, with some covering up others.

I've done a lot of searching, but have yet to find how to do it (or even if it's possible)

So, first off does what I want to do make sense and if so can it be done with-in VSx6?

Thanks for any and all help.

Hi and welcome back to the Board! I used to run a website devoted to the rescue and rehoming of small dogs (and indeed one of my poodles was once on the site before I adopted him!!) So I add my personal welcome to my official one!!

There is indeed a way to achieve what you are after. It is the New Blue Picture-in-Picture filter which you can find by clicking on the FX button down the right hand side of the preview window. There is also a tutorial on how to use it at http://vimeo.com/8978357 Though the latter was made for an earlier version of Video Studio, the use of that filter remains the same.

And explore some of the other filters for other effects which might help further spruce up your rescue videos!! You might also want to consider using other transitions to vary things a bit. And perhaps even using some titles or captions on some of the photos to make things more interesting.

Incidentally, I notice that, coincidentally, your video was of an Australian shepherd. An interesting and lovely breed which, despite its name, has absolutely nothing to do with Australia, apart from the fact that it was apparently Australian shepherds who brought their dogs to the American goldrushes of the 19th centure. Their various dogs interbred, producing what is now called by the Australian shepherd name, even though they don't exist in Australia apart from perhaps a handful of imports from the US!! Even more coincidentally, I met a lady in our local dog park here in NZ three weeks ago who had with her her three Australian shephers, one with one blue eye and one brown eye!! Lovely dogs...

Hey Ken! Thanks for the fast reply. I watched that tutorial - which gave me another idea on something - but that only shows one picture in picture. Can I do multiple pictures like that, I'd just need to do individual tracks and stretch the first one to the length of what would be the 4th picture?

Does that make sense?

Also; is there a good place that lists all the different tutorials for VS x6? Every time I use it I feel like I am missing so many cool feature. :D

Again, thanks for the help.

Oh, that Aussie in the video - he was left in a shed for 4 months hoping he'd die. When we got him and vetted him he had rat bones, rocks and cardboard in his stomach. Yet, he still loved everyone. That last picture in the video is one of my favorite pictures I have taken of any dog. Shows how much progress he made and how happy he is now. I agree, they are a great breed and just amazing dogs. The video I am wanting to do will be with Elkhounds this time though. :)

Hi

Your best option is to view a few of the instant projects, theses use several techniques usually incorporating several images. This will give you an idea as to what can be achieved.

Download the “4 in 1 fade” from the Do-More templates.
This starts by fading in the first clip top right, then bottom left and so on till the screen is full. One image in each quarter of the screen.

If the template does not install correctly, I had problems it did not show in the library, find the folder in (Let me know if you have problems with this particular template?
)
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate\4 in 1 Fade Intro
to open the VSP.

You will have to re-link/replace the Place holders with your images.

Brian Cee
I know Brian, on vacation/holiday at the moment has done some YouTube video showing split screen, one here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqDJkGQm ... ploademail

I think he may have other samples using multiple clips.

Hope that helps

Hey Trevor,

I found that 4 in 1 Fade inthe section you said, and like you it was not in my library. Actually, there appear to be several that are not in my library. But, I'm not 100% understanding what you mean to get them to be in the library - sorry if that's a stupid question. lol

Hi

Using VS X6 there is a vertical row of icons to the right of the preview screen
The second icon down is the Instant Projects, click that, then choose Custom option.
Do you see the custom templates.

Any templates downloaded installed should show as folders/files are here:-
C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate
and show as thumbnails within the custom library.

To add to timeline, right click a clip and choose Add at beginning.

If you have installed Graffiti then there will also be 16 folders for the Graffiti library.

Ok,

After looking into all of those files it seems I have only downloaded the 4 in 1 Fade Intro. I assume there is a normal 4 in 1 template. I looked for it in the 'Do More' section and didn't see it. Maybe I am just flat out missing it.

When I go to the Custom tab in the Instant Projects tab this is what I see.

Image

The 4 in 1 Fade sounds exactly like what I am looking for, but I just can't find it to download. Does it have a different name? I see that a lot of the templates are titles things like; HTML 04 or 020_HD-Project maybe it's one of them?

Sorry for being a hassle, I really do appreciate the help.

I have never downloaded many of those templates, and maybe Trevor has further information. But I too can only find that 40 second 4 in 1 Fade Intro. I also found, way down the list, another short 'Four Pix" PnP intro, and at the very end "5 Panels". Mixing and matching these, and customising backgrounds etc in them, should give you plenty to play with, though...

Hi

The 4in 1 fade does not install correctly. (must get that sorted with Corel)
It creates an extra folder within the first

Try this
Close Video Studio

Go to :- C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate
Move the folder called “4in 1 fade intro” from that folder to your desktop.
Open the folder, you will find another "4 in 1 fade intro” folder.
Copy this folder and paste back to
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate

Run Video Studio
The template should show in the Custom page.
The Placeholders require replacing, Drag an image from the library, hold CTRL key and drop over placeholder.

If the template does not show………..
Attached to this post is the associated VSP, should open in X6
You are best to create several (6) images using 16:9 ratio.
The images will require relinking

Hope that helps

Trevor,

Perfect! It's there now. :)

Really appreciate your's and Kens help.

It's nice being able to come to a forum like this and not get screamed at for not knowing what I am doing. I may not be the best at making these videos, but I try and have fun doing it.

Thanks again guy, really appreciate it. I may be back for more tips soon! :D

Hey Ken and Trevor,

Just wanted to thank you guys for your help. With the ideas you guys gave me, and where to find them, I came up with this video yesterday. If you have a chance could you watch it and maybe suggest anything I could do differently next time? To be honest I am really pleased how it came out. Those templates make things so much easier. :D

Again, thanks for the help.

That's great and really effective. Congratulations! You've got it!!

I have to say that the Norwegian elkhound is not a breed I am familiar with, though its general look and colouring is not unlike the Swedish valhund on much longer legs!!

My only criticism is that some of the photos you have included are squeezed horizontally out of proportion, and this jars in an otherwise pretty professional looking production. The effect I am talking about is particularly noticeable around the 1 minute mark and for the succeeding 20 seconds or so (top left box), and also from about 3:15 onwards for a few seconds in the bottom right box and then also in the new box which appears above it. You might want to think about either using different photos which fill the box in proper proportion, or cropping the original so that it fits the box in proportion.

But well done indeed!  8)

Hey Ken,

I 100% agree with your criticism. I'm chalking that up to a little learning curve. But, other than that I have the basics down. Still wanting to learn more and get the most out of it, but after doing that video I'm not as "scared" of the program anymore.

Glad you liked it.
