Changing pixels to 500 x 500 and 300 DPI

Post by scummins »

I have taken pictures for my husbands company, and one of the distributors wants pictures sent to them in jpeg, and stated the pictures must be 500 x 500 pixels and 300 DPI. I have not been able to make the height and width both at 500 pixels. Can this be done? I have PSP X4.

Use the Crop tool, set to a square format, to first crop your image before resizing it.

Hi

Seems a strange request
As things go 500px is small.
300dpi is the print resolution, this would print the 500 x 500 at 1.6 inches, to me that’s also small, more suitable for an image on an ID card.

Are you sure they require 500px

Lata,
I checked the email again and it requires a minimum of 500 x 500 pixels for their website. Can you tell me what a good number is for pixels for a website? Again, I am a novice at this so any help is very much appreciated! Thank you!

Don't worry about it. Just give him a 500x500px image and tell him that the "dpi" value is utterly meaningless for displaying an image on the Web -- if the image is 500px wide and high, browsers will display it as 500px wide and high, period.

500x500 ain't really small for use on the Web, by the way. Here's a product shot at 500x500px (with no value set for the dpi):
