I want to capture & burn to DVD without editing using V/S 8. Later I want to copy DVD back into V/S8 for editing and then final burn to DVD.
The problems I'm experienceing is v/s 8 is not recognising the format that has been copied back from DVD onto my hard drive. All the capturing & burning is done in V/S 8. Maybe this isn't possible what I'm wanting to do.

Why would you want to do it that way? To me it looks like saddling a horse after the race? I don't intend to be rude, but could you give a reason for wanting to do it that way? The normal way would be, to capture to DV AVI (easier on system resources), edit the footage and, finally, render to DVD compliant mpeg for burning to DVD.
Thanks for your replies > The reason I'm wanting to do this is that I have heaps of Analogue Video Tapes but I don't have the time to Edit them all right now. So I thought I could just capture & burn & then bring them back into V/S 8 from the DVD's later for editing.
P.S. see my post in Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3. I'm trying everything.

I would suggest you convert to MPEG2 before you copy the material to DVDs because the AVI files likely take up considerably more space. Plus, you have to convert to MPEG2 eventually anyway.
Another option would be encoding using DIVX or XVID, it's more space-efficienet than MPEG2 at comparable quality.

I agree with capturing to mpeg to save space then editing afterwards. See my post on precisely the same point
