Trouble importing audio into X5

Post by Ken Veal »

I am trouble importing a 20 track CD into a X5 project. If I go via import media files,
in the browse media files box , I select all tracks then select open .In the pre process
status box, sometimes it runs through very quick and only about 3 seconds of that
track plays in VS. This happens in no particular order throughout the CD.The same thing
happens if I try to import a single track.A selected file that does not import properly will
play in full via the browse files box.
If I go file-import media file to library-insert audio-the cda file is processed at great speed
with the same 3 second playback.
If I go via digital media-in the import from digital media box-I select the drive-select start
Then it tells me there is no valid content.
Help please ...............Ken

I'm not even sure that ripping CDs was ever a function of VS. Certainly, I have never even tried doing it. There's simply no need when you can use Windows Media Player or a wide variety of other programs to rip the CD, then just open or 'insert' the desired track into the VS audio timeline in the usual way.

I guess this is the "Import from Audio CD" option. The CD must have the relevant track information for this to work OK.
Like Ken I add the CD to my music library using other software and then import the track through the normal file browsing process.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi Ken

Don’t know why the CD import does not work, just tried on my X5 with no problems

As Terfyn mentioned are you using the correct import method.

Do NOT use Import Media Files, although that method does seem to work.

Select the Record Capture icon adjacent to Undo arrow) (the spool with the red dot)

Choose to –Import from Audio CD—

Does that work or do you have similar problems

This was my workflow
TO IMPORT AUDIO CD
1 Click Record /Capture option (adjacent to Undo arrow the spool with the red dot)
2 Select import from audio CD
3 “ drive
4 List populates
5 Select tracks
6 “ quality
7 “ file making rule
8 “ add to project after ripping
9 Status field shows progress
10 Close on completion
The process was very much quicker than Windows Media Player was the last time I used it, I have always used VS from Version 9 up to now with no problem. This CD does not display track info, but this has not been a problem before.I find now that half the tracks are imported with no problem but 10 of the 20 (in a random order) tracks have no sound. An instance of the properties are Wav 45228kb comp=PCM 44.100kHz 16 bit stereo

Hi Ken

Sorry for the confusion regarding the workflow.
Could it be a faulty disc? you mention importing from the disc before, maybe the disc has a scratch on its surface.
Does the disc play ok, smooth throughout all tracks?

Try using another software to rip the disc, I have always used Real Player, I know many don’t like the program but I have had no issues with it. Must admit haven’t run it for a while.

After my last post, I made a windows media player play list after ripping the whole CD.I then right clicked on one of the tracks to find its location on the PC-it was in a obscure numbered folder,I opened that, copied the contents and pasted them to a new and appropriately named folder.I then, in spite of advice(why was it suggested to NOT use import media files?) I did that and imported the tracks that previously had no sound. So now I am in business.

Hi Ken

I am not sure that Import Media Files should be used to "rip" the CD disc.

Once ripped via “Import from Audio CD” option the clips will be inserted to the timeline, now you can drag to the library, if you wish

The "Import Media files" can be used to import your files to Video Studio not rip the CD.
I did however say the process did work for me, given that you had problems it was I that suggested NOT using Insert Media. --to rip the CD--

If you use a third party program to rip your disc, then the files will require inserting to Video Studio.

Never crossed my mind to rip a CD via IMF, did not think it could do that and have never tired it,used just to import from the hard drive.
