No audio on preview after capture

Post by dtracy »

I'm guessing this topic has been addressed before, but I was unable to locate a reference to it by searching the board. The problem: Using VS8 I just completed a simple "insert DVD" to the timeline to begin the editing process. The video shows up in the preview screen, but the audio does not play. While in edit mode, I can preview all the other clips in my library and they all play the audio with the video as they should. I can play this newly inserted MPG clip in any other media viewer, such as Windows Media Player, and both the audio and video work fine. However, in VS8, the audio will not play at all for this particular clip. Any ideas? I have checked all settings and preferences. The properties for the clip shows that the audio is "Dolby Digital Audio" and layer is "none". Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

If you haven't purchased the VS8 option for Dolby sound then that is the reason you have no sound. Dolby is part of the base VS9 distribution but an optional extra for VS8.

Thanks for the follow-up. Shortly after posting the question, I purchased the VS9 upgrade - everything works fine now. Plus, I've got all the latest features. Money well spent.
