One Time Help Have ONE Question Only

Post by poster guy »

Hello,

I have one question and that's all I will ever have forever, if you help me answer it I'll be grateful and you will never see or hear from me again.

I have an image file 1779 x 2685 96 dpi that I want to take to Staples and get a 24" x 36" poster made out of it. How can I change the original image file using PaintShop Pro 5X so that the ppi meets the Staples requirement which is at least 180 ppi? and do I need to change the size of my image file to fit my specified poster size properly without losing any quality of the original computer image file?

Thank you,

Al

Don't promise not to come back.
-----

Image -> Resize command.

Along the top you can set the final print size and resolution.

-----

I should tell you, there is the possibility of quality issues.

You see your original image is 1779 x 2685. While a 24" x36" image at 180ppi is 4320 x 6480 which means you're upscaling the image by about 3 times.

When you upscale an image they have to invent pixels that didn't use to exist. It does this by averaging the nearby pixels. This creates a softer image. So performing sharpening on the image after its resized won't hurt.

There's actually a script somewhere designed to help you resize the image without losing too much clarity. But I don't remember where it is. I know why mention what you can't find. In case it jars someone else's memory who can be more helpful.

If the quality isn't what you'd like in one big upsize operation, try doing it in multiple steps, like 3 (or more) separate upsizing operations to get it to the final desired size.
