Hi,
I'm using VS 9 SE and want to remove noise, however audio filters don't appear under options. Where are they?
When I load a noisy clip on the timeline and select it, the options panel on the left side shows no Audio Filter icon or button, so I can't select an available noise reduction filter. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Regards, Don
How do I apply audio filters in VS 9

AFAIK, there aren't any audio filters in VS. There were at least two separate postings on this exact same subject just a couple of weeks ago. The upshot was that you need to filter out any unwanted noise by using a third party program. Nero has a good one included in it; Thoff suggested the free Audacity, but I don't have the URL for that. But a simple search of this site or Google is sure to turn it up. Good luck.

Firstly, I am not sure what is disabled in the SE version of the program. But assuming audio filters aren't, the filter option can be found under the Audio tab. There you will see the "Audio Filter" icon (left side of screen, last item). To apply a filter though, you must have your audio split from the video clip so it is present in either the Voice or Music tracks (you must be in Timeline view). You can split your audio from the video clip using the "Split Audio" icon on the Edit tab.
Once you select the audio in either the Voice or Music track, then the "Audio Filter" icon (in Audio tab) becomes enabled and you can then apply the required filter by activating that icon and selecting from the filter choices available.
You can read all about it on p122 of the VS9 manual.

Audacity (if you need it, and for noise removal you likely will) is a SourceForge project and can be found HERE.
Using Audacity with UVS will require you to create a separate audio file from your video (using Share -> Create Audio File), processing the file using Audacity, and then inserting the file back into your UVS project. You will then need to mute the audio track that is attached to the video, or separate it from the video and delete it completely.
