I have some panorama JPEGs created by Microsoft Image Composite Editor (ICE). These appear to be normal JPEGs as far as I can tell, but ASP will not display them when I browse to the folder. I've even tried resaving the JPEGs using Windows Paint and Photoshop Elements, hoping that might use a format friendlier to ASP--but no luck. Each of the individual images that make up the panorama display in ASP.
Does anyone have any ideas? Are there certain JPEGs that ASP can't show?
Thanks.
Carl
Why are some JPEGs not visible to ASP?

Probably to large, the limit is 50MP.

Re: Why are some JPEGs not visible to ASP?
No, that's not the case because the JPEG is only 6 MB.

Hmm,Centauri27 wrote:No, that's not the case because the JPEG is only 6 MB.
even 6MB can be over 50MP when the compression rate is high enough...
Can you run exiftool over the image and attach the output here?

Re: Why are some JPEGs not visible to ASP?
Here's the weird thing--not only will ASP not import the image, it doesn't even display it in File System view! Therefore, I'm not even able to run the Exif Viewer over it. (Is that the tool you're referring to? It doesn't seem to show the uncompressed size--just the JPEG dimensions.)afx wrote: Hmm,

Also, is the 50MB limit in ASP the uncompressed size?

Re: Why are some JPEGs not visible to ASP?
I did some more testing using a very wide panorama. After saving a number of panorama JPEGs, it would appear that ASP will display the file only when the photo width is less than 10100px. Odd boundary though. At that level, the uncompressed size of the photo is just under 30MB. Attempts to create panos wider than 10100px (but still under 50MB uncompressed) results in them not being displayed.

I think Corel documents the dimension limit somewhere on the specs pages, but I can't remember them.

Re: Why are some JPEGs not visible to ASP?
I ran into the same problem with size, Carl.
I experimented with numerous sizes and found that as soon as a photo was larger than 40Mpix (that's pixels, not file size), it would not show up in the Catalog nor the file view. I did not run into a maximum file size (MB) limit, although there might be one.
I could not find this information anywhere, either online on in the user's manual.
{Lightroom supports photos up to 65,000 pixels long or wide, or up to 512 megapixels, whichever is smaller.}
Don't know about the other manufacturers, but about half of the Nikon DX and FX cameras now have 24MP or larger sensors, so if you wanted to stitch together just two of these photos, you'd likely run over the 40Mpix limit.
I hope Corel will increase the ASP Mpix limit in their next release, as it is way behind LR.
