Hi.
I'm trying to edit multiple camera videos on main and overlay tracks switching between them. I cannot seem to be able to leave a gap on the main video track at all whether ripple is on or off. I've searched the help files and haven't seen any tutorials that relate to it. What do I do to leave a gap in the main video track (with the video at that point in the overlay)?
Also I noticed the Track Manager has a greyed drop down to add video tracks. Is there a higher priced version to have more video tracks as opposed to overlay tracks?
Thanks,
Mike Trahan

Re: No gaps in video track?
Have you tried inserting a black colour from the "Graphic" section (between T and FX) into your video timeline? This will act as a spacer on your video track.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: No gaps in video track?
Hi
Go to Preferences F6 – Edit Tab - Set “Use Fit to Screen as default size in overlay track.”
Now use two overlay tracks, ignore the top track.

Re: No gaps in video track?
Thanks for the two responses. Here's a comment on both.
Re putting in a black spacer: one workaround but as you edit other things, wouldn't ripple automatically plus would become kind of a pain. Should not be necessary.
Re just using the overlay tracks only: that would be a workable approach except for a separate sound issue posted separately and shown below. Again can be worked around but I've never seen this forced in other video software so keep thinking there's a check box somewhere to turn off this behavior
Other problem referred to:
In edit, when I select Clip and play a clip on an overlay track, there's no sound. Yes, I can first click on the sound mixer and then it plays but what a waste of time. Project will play but then I have to isolate the clip. How do I get sound playing under Clip when the segment is in one of the overlay tracks?
Thanks
Mine

Re: No gaps in video track?
Hi Mike
Generally when using two cameras to record they are running all the time.
You then have two videos of the same duration.
The main video being placed in the top track, edit to add an introduction.
Now add the second camera video to the overlay track syncing to the top track.
Cutting and removing the unwanted sections fron the overlay will allow the top track to show through. The remaining clips being in sync.
If you have multiple recordings then each section will require syncing, a lot of work there.
But again the main cameras footage should be placed in the top track.
If you progress from left to right ripple editing would not be needed.

Re: No gaps in video track?
Hi Trevor.
Yep. I'm doing more of the worse case. My granddaughter had the lead in Annie in a summer camp. Two performances. Took video from different places for the two and took some in each one that wasn't in the other. For common scenes, doing some cross fading back and forth with them almost synced but keeping each with its own audio since they are different.
I've used Ulead software about 7-10 years ago so Corel feels comfortable but it looks as if they've cut this version (Ultimate-very latest version downloaded a few days ago) to one video track. The forced no gaps on the video track is a bit of a pain in this situation. When tied with inability to play clip audio on the overlay track (a different posting), it becomes more of a pain.
I'm asking myself is this worth it or should I get my 30-day refund. Just tried CyberLink. Froze on me a couple of times but doesn't have these restrictions. I'd prefer Corel if it wasn't for these two issues but I'm leaning to Cyberlink now.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: No gaps in video track?
VideoStudio Pro X6 has one video track and up to 20 overlay tracks all of which can have a video in them - click on the track manager icon just above the left hand end of the timeline to enable more tracks - it looks a bit grey by default but I think you will find it works - or go via "Settings >> Track Manager" and do it that way.
If you don't like the way that the main video track works - don't use it - it is not compulsory - just put everything into overlay tracks and enable ripple editing.
I personally like the black block method because you can adjust timings by just one frame (1/30th sec in NTSC) by simply adding or removing frames from the block

Re: No gaps in video track?
Hi Brian
Mike is also having a problem in playing the clip with sound when editing in the overlay track, Clip Playback mode, this does make things difficult when trying to sync audio, hoping Mike would reply to this post regarding the video properties?

Re: No gaps in video track?
Hi Brian and Trevor.
Brian: I agree but as Trevor mentioned there is another problem. No sound when playing Clip mode when the clip is in an overlay track (separate issue post in this forum). Again not insurmountable but a definite pain and inconvenience when trying to do what you suggested esp. with heavily overlapping video you're trying to edit to cut back and forth.
Trevor: added a reply to the No Sound post. Here's the video properties repeated from that post. FX is not selected in the top middle, just the media library.
Thanks,
Mike
