Capture from VHS Camrecorder

Post by jbbedtel »

I have VideoStudio SE, March 2006 purchased from Best Buy in Nov. 2012 packaged with Sabrent USB-AVCPT cables. I was able to capture vidio for awhile. Now when I try I get the fellowing message. "Capture video bit rate is 300. Frame size is 640 X 480. When using this frame size the video bit rate should be between 1578 - 8838."
What went wrong? How do I set it to work again?

Hi Bill

Welcome to the forums.

Not many will have that particular capture device so we can only guess on a reply.
What version of video studio are you using :?: :?: later versions changed the capture settings capability again making it difficult to give an exact reply.

From memory (which of late is fast fading) to capture using a USB device

1 / Set the Capture Format to DVD, if that is not available choose Mpeg, but DVD would be the best option as it provides compatible settings.
2 / Click the Options Cogwheel to open the capture properties, this will allow you to choose your preferred settings, again the DVD option will provide settings within a defined range.

The settings you choose should then show on the Information panel below the preview screen.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I have been so long and getting back to you. VideoStudio is version 10.0. What I have done so far. There is a reinstall program on the disk. I tried that and it still didn't work. I then uninstalled the program and reinstalled it on my stand alone hard drive. I am now able to capture VHS video but have another problem. It puts the VIDEO in the time line with a black image. When I check clip it will play back with picture and sound. If I check project it plays back with the black image and sound. If I try to drag the clip from the library to the time line I get an error "File is unreadable". Next I used the Leawo Avi Conterter to convert the file to AVI With DV Codec (*ave). This file I can inport to the time line in VideoStudio and it will play in program or clip mode. I have been able to do all the other editing ok except doing the overlay and getting a transparent back ground. The background was white. New problem, I can not burn project to disk. I do not get the next on the screen. I used alt n one time to create a DVD but that doesn't work now.
Thanks Bill

The lack of the "Next" button in the 'Create Disc' module is due to the incompatibility of version 10 and Windows 7 - version 10 is very old - we are now using version X6 (16)

Many users have managed to workaround the problem by using the standard keyboard shortcut for 'next' of pressing 'alt' and 'N' keys together (alt+N)

Thanks for the reply. How can I upgrade my VideoStudio SE version 10.0 so it will work with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit?

You cannot - version 10 is very very old and was released way before windows 7 was even thought of - even before XP - your only option is to purchase a new version - currently X6 (16)
