Hi all I have a problem that is driving me nuts! VS6 Pro Ultimate
I started a project a week or so ago nothing fancy just some photos overlaid onto a video with a sound track, I saved it as a project, opened it today only to face relinking all the photos some 150 of them!
The folder that you place all your photos showed they were not linked so I relinked them, then I opened the project only to find most of the photos were not linked!
1: Is there a batch relinking I can use?
2: What would cause this issue? ( I've never had this before)
3: How do I prevent it happening again?
Thanks in advance
Pete

Re: Relinking
One of the major causes of the re-linking problem is when the photos/videos are on an external hard drive - Unless you have manually set a drive letter for the drive Windows sometimes arbitrarily assigns a different drive letter to the drive and VideoStudio loses contact.
I am not sure how you re-linked the clips - normally you would open a project and then get the message to re-link - you do that with the project open from within VideoStudio - I get the impression from your post you did something different
The re-linking option itself is a sort of batch process in that normally when you re-link the first photo/video all others in the same folder usually link as well

Re: Relinking
Hi Pete
One question…..Have you used via windows explorer a batch re-name to re-name your files?
Providing files are in the same folder all should be re-linked in one go. (batch Re-link)
You say--- 3: How do I prevent it happening again?
Answer --- Good housekeeping

Re: Relinking
Thanks for the quick response.
1: Internal HDD all photos on the same drive same folder as when I started the project
2: All photos in the import photos display (right hand panel as you open VS sorry cant think of its name at the moment??) relinked as a batch relink
3: All photos in the time line had to be relinked one at a time
4: No renaming of files, all files taken from memory card from camera, as I have always done, (without any problem).
5: Please define "good housekeeping" when no files have been touched moved renamed copied or any other thing you care to mention!
Thanks
Pete

Re: Relinking
Hi Pete
5 / good-housekeeping, you describe “when no files have been touched etc
If individual files are re-named then batch re-link will not work
If the folder is re-named or moved then batch re-link should work?
Yes I realise you have not moved or altered the files in any way, that makes it more intriguing
The panel to the right of the preview screen is the library. at one time re-linking only affected one clip, but I have just tried and all clips are re-linked, first attempt.
Clips in the library should re-link in one attempt provided the clips are in the same folder structure.
That of course does not explain you received the relink in the first place.
A relink request is usually because the clip/files details have changed in some way.
The request shows the last known location of the file, showing here on this image.

Re: Relinking
Thanks for the reply Trevor
I have now relinked all files just hope it doesn't happen again!
As I said I've never had this problem before, been using VS since ver 7 even after moving from one pc to another all files relinked as a batch both in library (lol) and in time line this is why it was driving me nuts!
Regards
Pete
