Sag/Lag on 1080P Editing

Post by trueno86power »

Hi there. I was working for a while with VideoStudio ProX5 and I'm trying the demo version of VideoStudio ProX6 and I've got some issue...

First, my video files are .MOV from my Nikon D3100. 1920X1080 24FPS H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding.

My computer: HP Laptop DV6 Intel Core i3 350M @ 2.27GHz. 8GB of memory. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470. On Win7 Family Premium 64bits.

So it's a car video, cars are at street speed or lower and you can clearly see the sag of the cars. I've try different output (.avi, .mp4, .mts etc... ) from custom to the one included in the program and still sag like crazy.

Ah and I've retry the same project in my old VideoStudio ProX5 and it did the same exact thing. I'm out of ideas.

Sorry - can you explain what you mean by "sag" in a video - I presume that lag refers to 'out of sync' on sound is that correct ? but I have no idea about sag especially if it is something you can see.

Sorry, I'm french and my english is not perfect!

Well what I got is, for exemple the car move and the movement is not fluid. It's lagging. The sound is still in sinq. but the video is clearly not fluid.

Do you see the problem in the editing stage, or just after you have saved the final movie?
Is it just this one video that is the problem, or do you now have the problem with any video you are editing?

Yeah I can cleary see it in the preview screen too. But the original files don't lag at all it's perfecly fluid.

I've got this problem since i've switched to my Nikon D3100. My other Digial cam was recording in 720P only. This in is in 1080P. My laptop is suposed to be enought powerfull for that... Well I think!

Hi
This maybe a Smart Proxy issue

As you are now using full HD files you may need to use Smart Proxy files, the files are created by video studio to help with playback and editing.

View Settings – Smart Proxy Manager that Smart Proxy is Enabled
View the Settings-Smart Proxy Manager—Smart Proxy File Manager

A small icon will show on the clip within the timeline indicating proxy files have been created.
Proxy files will be created when first adding clips to the timeline.
Otherwise…
Right click your clip in the timeline and Create Smart Proxy files

View Settings—Smart Proxy Queue Manager—this lists the files being created, do not close Video Studio until this list is empty.

Smart proxy was on but I've cleared all the old smart proxy and I've made some fresh one. Still the same lagging issue.

Try this:

Go to the Proxy Settings and set your values to look like the following. First uncheck "Auto generate proxy template." Then click the Option button and set these Video Proxy Options assuming you have NTSC video: (Click on the image to make it larger, then click on your browser's back arrow to get back to this page)
Proxy Parameters.jpg
If you still get lag you can lower the data rate less than 8000 kbps and/or lower the resolution below 720 x 480 (but choose one that is 16:9).

I think that the proxy file is only used when you select PROJECT in the preview window. So don't be surprised if the lag, stutter, etc. still occurs when you preview a clip in the library or one that's on the timeline.

Edit: I forgot to mention that you might want to set the Project Properties the same as the above Proxy Properties.

Edit: If you don't like one of the four choices available, you can create one that might be better to your liking, especially one that has lower resolution and, therefore, easier for the preview screen to play smoothly, then click on the Template button. I can use the following settings on my low end computer with my 1080p clips from my Nikon and they'll mostly play ok in the preview window:
