I see a big difference in the quality when previewing full screen at the clip or the project, even if they are the same. That is, to reproduce, add a video clip to a new project. Preview it full screen--looks good. Preview instead the project, and it's somewhat blurry. I would have expected them to be the same, especially since I have no effects applied at all. When I created an mp4 from it, it looked fine. Even the volume of the sound decreased when I went from the clip to the project preview.
So, apologies for not understanding the technical aspects, but why would the project and the clip previews look and sound so different, and is there anything I can do about it?
I am honestly not technical enough to understand all the project settings, but this is what I have been using:
NTSC double (60 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 854 x 480, 60 fps
Frame-based
Uncompressed
Thanks.

Re: Preview Project vs. Clip Quality VSP6 SP1
When you work in 'project' mode a different process is used to that used to play 'clip' as the programme is then modifying the video to take account of the editing you have done - even if you haven't really done any .
The view in 'project' or 'clip' mode for that matter is not that important - what matters id what your video looks like when you render out the final video.

Hi
Just to add the video properties are a little unusual in using the frame size of 854 x 480 it is indeed 16:9 ratio and will fill the preview screen.
The frame rate of 60 fps, Video Studio can edit this rate, please select the 60p editing mode via Settings, this may improve the Project Playback quality.
Project Properties are set to Standard Definition, Press Alt+Enter to edit the project properties, use Edit file format as AVI
NTSC double (60 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 854 x 480, 60 fps
Frame-based
Uncompressed
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Has the project playback quality improved

Re: Preview Project vs. Clip Quality VSP6 SP1
The audio seems somewhat better, but nothing really changed on the video sharpness. I did have Enable 60p/50p editing already checked.
But please clarify, when you say "Just to add the video properties are a little unusual in using the frame size of 854 x 480 it is indeed 16:9 ratio and will fill the preview screen," I guess I'm not understanding if the video properties are a little unusual, is there something else I should change there?
Thanks again for the help.

Re: Preview Project vs. Clip Quality VSP6 SP1
Hi
When I say unusual I mean not a standard frame sizes for creating a DVD disc.
HD discs would use 1920 x 1080 or maybe 1280 x 720.
Standard Definition would use 720 x 576 for Pal video and 720 x 480 for Ntsc discs
If you wish to create a disc then your frame size of 854 x 480 will be changed.
On the good side it is 16:9 aspect ratio so will remain in proportion when upscaling to HD standards.
What is the source of your video files, where did they come from?
What are you intending to make, a DVD disc or video for the internet.?
