I too very rarely go outside ASP - occasionally use PS Elements ( to splice two images together) but the plugins and layers usually do what I need.
That is why I am staying here rather than going elsewhere - in the hope that highlights will be fixed :-)
There is a bit I miss from Bibble --- the clone used to allow colour only cloning ( that let you paint over a red post box- or person - with the surrounding colours ) - that now has to go to PSE.
ex-Bibble - mostly OLY E-510 and E-M5 + Win 8

@gareth
That's why I want to stay with AS too (leave alone the linux thing)
and as so many have said, let's not throw away our history - we can always add primitives to the DTD to allow for different, or additional, processing with the 2.0 engine

I really do not want to rework my whole collection... It was quite unfair the way it happens for the Bibble to ASP migration.

Thanks

Hi,

first of all, stay with Noise Ninja. I've read some posts that this is not going to work with some updates. I'm running 1.2.0.7 and it's still active. If Noise Nija will go away from ASP, I will move to Windows and Lightroom.
Secondly, keep the Linux support.
What else: I would like to have an unsharp mask build in (not only via plugins, the results the plugin produces are bad, bad, bad). Make sure to keep the program running fast.
I would wish a better selection tool like you have it in GIMP. I would like to have a better auto correction. I think that the black is too black and the contrasts are too heavy. I also would like to have an easy to use tool to define presettings in order to edit quickly a row of similar pictures.
I think at the end ASP is chasing Lighroom. Make sure to get as close as possible although they are a few year ahead with there development. Then ASP might have a slight chance to survive.

Best

On behalf of Coq, who has lost his password, and is too busy getting ready for his holiday to jump through the recovery hoops:

Thanks for the work already done, thanks for the good news and thanks for ASP quality :-) From the most important to the "less most" important:

Keep ensuring ASP works on Linux, this is why I chosed it,
Keep ensuring contributors can develop plugins,
Keep improving tools for local adjustment,
Improve library management, as mentionned by spoilerhead,
Improve highlight recovery, could even imagine the user provides the reference color if information is missing (1 or 2 color clipping), especially with blue skies,
Provide native Lab support - if possible, plugins already exist and work very well.

I would be ready for beta testing under Linux Debian 64 bits, stable, testing and/or unstable.

NN is gone forever as Picture Code will not renew the license. Nothing Corel can do about this.

along with tintin - keep the option of running with old engine for old pics.
If xmp already exists for a raw image then process with the engine specified - but with some UI marker to show there is the option to switch.
Ideally that should be by image version so one can have an old and a new from the same RAW to help in comparing and deciding to 'upgrade'.

Hi afx,

is there a real alternative for NN in the pipeline?

I think Corel must work realy hard to keep ASP alive. It's a good pice of software and I would miss it.

I don't have details, but a replacement has been decided on as far as I know.

When I installed 1.2.0.7 it found my NN registration, NN is marked Registered and active (at least moving the sliders does "something"). Of course it is not a formidable tool and it cooperates badly some other tools like with Perfectly Clear that I don't use anyway..

It is good to know they envisage something else...

Thank you, Rick, for this informative update. I would definitely be interested in testing some beta versions.

As far as new features:
- Linux support - this is critical for me and many others
- enhancements to the adjustment filters - e.g. being able to apply a graduated nd type filter with a gradient over part of an image could be useful
- improved highlights recovery

Thanks again!

Right now I don’t use any Corel products in my workflow because you are missing 2-3 features I require, but I do hope you’ll get to where I need you in the near future. Currently I use DxO for most of my work, Picasa for organization, and GIMP when I need a pixel editor. I’m not entirely happy with this combination, but the only thing clearly better are the Adobe products, and I don’t want to give them my money.

I’d like to get to the point where I’m using DxO only for batch processing and raw conversion (nef->dng). It’s got great tools but is slow and has a clumsy interface. Then in this ideal world, I’d then take the DNG into ASP and do my manual corrections, cropping, and cataloging. Finally I’d go over to PSP or PhotoPaint (I already own CorelDraw) for the rare picture I want to make more advanced edits to. When I’m done I’d generally do one final conversion to a tiff or jpeg unless I want the file for a future background, in which case I’d leave them as DNGs.

So at a minimum I would need:

- generic DNG support.
- tight integration with Paintshop Pro and/or Photo-Paint. Includes nondestructive back and forth.
- Keep speed of program

While not critical for me, for your own sake I would also suggest you:

-update camera profiles quickly, the early adopters are really the trendsetters.
-improved cataloging/DAM features.
-fix sdk to help those willing to spend the time to make plugins. The plugin engine and speed is really what separates AS from your competition.
-continue to improve customer engagement.

There is one more thing that is probably impossible, but would be great if it worked. Figure out a way to use PS plugins in ASP in a nondestructive manner (especially Nik).
